Earth Resonance

March 30, 2011 by Carl Blare

Where better to ask about the resonant frequency of the earth. I first learned about the earth’s natural resonant frequency (if the earth were rung like a bell) on a spectrum chart at a university. The number was the lowest number on the chart, even below brain wave frequencies, was less than 1Hz (ELF- Extra Low Frequency), and was a fractional number. But since seeing that chart there’s never again been any place where the earth resonance can be found.

What is found now is a different phenomena called “Schumann Resonance,” which describes the natural resonance in the wave guide existing in atmosphere between the earth surface and the ionosphere, with a center frequency of 7.83Hz and a bandwidth of 3 – 69Hz.

After asking reference librarians and many online searches, we come now to the brain trust here at part15.us.

What is the resonant frequency of the earth?

Call Letters WiFi

March 27, 2011 by Carl Blare

There actually is a WIFI, located in Florence NJ with 5kW day/500W night. Even though it’s practically within sight of New York City, it’s pattern is directed out to the Atlantic. But it is not silent.

Internet Radio in the Car

This line from RAIN: Radio and Internet Newsletter, is my favorite of the day…

“There are plenty of ways to stream Internet radio in your car (RAIN coverage here) but most of them require buying a new car which can be rather expensive.”

Admittedly I’m quoting the line out of context, but it’s good that way.

The other part of the story has something to do with wireless speakers, scroll down a bit…

Programming Wonderland

March 26, 2011 by Carl Blare

At librivox.org is a wonderland of audio books in the public domain as read by volunteers, including hundreds of years of great literature, some of which we remember from early education.

More and more I’m programming librivox books, including some I’ve never read, and it is glorious.

Some of us might even volunteer to record books for librivox.

News Commentary

March 22, 2011 by Carl Blare

A part 15 radio station is a free speech tool, whether the owner chooses to speak or simply present music and information. Doing free speech takes some planning to know what will be said, and sometimes this is influenced by current news.

I just saw a poll over on a news site which shows more people would prefer Charlie Sheen as president than either Palin or Obama.

Then for some reason I remembered the old Batman TV show and the Batman movies, with characters like The Joker and The Penguin, and everything sort of melded together.

I may have been falling asleep and beginning to have a dream.
