Subpart H might offer something for hobby broadcasters: “TV Band Devices.”

(1) Users of nonlicensed, low-power devices operating under Part 15 of this chapter may use whatever identification is currently desired, so long as propriety is observed and no confusion results with a station for which the FCC issues a license.

Again, the point here is not what that rule says, but the fact that it pertains to Part 15 but is not printed within Part 15.

Are there other misplaced rules somewhere in the maze of chapters, parts and sections which pertain to Part 15?

A particular Flash Audio Player allowed listeners to hear us, but after 15-minutes caused Firefox to collapse completely. Now the issue has been dealt with and can be read about.

Having a radio stream is the perfect partner for Part 15 operation, because it makes a micro-cosmos into a maxi-cosmos, But there are different kinds of streams and different kinds of players plus many directories for being listed.

On our website we have managed to set up Shoutcast streams with a special button for Windows Media Player, but the question now arises, should we think about Real Audio?

If anyone has experience or opinions about Real Audio I would be very curious.

On this night in late spring here in the midwaste, I mean, midwest, I suddenly recalled a couple of early day experiences back when I was a pimple faced announcer at the local FM just before the medium became popular.

It was (guess) 1961 when the first transistor AM/FM/SW receiver arrived, German made. It was physically beautiful at about 10″wide-by-7″high-by-3.5″deep, with royal blue art plastic pasted over a wood crafted case. The transistors inside were the silver can type not seen anymore. It was very sensitive, but there was a problem with audio distortion.

Next, about 1964, I saw an ad somewhere for a wrist AM/FM radio from (I think) Timex. I had mine right away and it certainly tuned in the stations on the tiniest speaker ever imagined, but the sensitivity was borderline and the level very miniature, so I returned and was given an honest refund.

Around the same time a Japanese AM/FM car radio went on sale at an oddball electronics store and I had mine somehow tapped into the car’s wiring, but it also had amplifier problems.

From crude beginnings we have all arrived wherever now is.
