Proposed Wi fi Portable

August 25, 2010 by Carl Blare

A family member got an iPad and is able to receive my streaming radio station using a free Shoutcast iPhone App, and then he can walk around within range of his wi-fi and hear my programs. He’s going to test the range of his wi-fi and we’ve already talked about improving its antenna placement or power.

But why not an audio-only portable wi-fi radio? We would need a screenless OS (operating system) which could be invented by part15.us members. It would be the product which could underwrite this website forever.

Inverse Proportion Confusion

August 19, 2010 by Carl Blare

The think tank at part15.us will know the answer to something that confuses me.

The output impedance of a condenser mic I’m building is described as “2.2k (maximum).”

The think tank at part15.us will know the answer to something that confuses me.

The output impedance of a condenser mic I’m building is described as “2.2k (maximum).”

That impedance is determined by a 2.2k resistor between the battery and the capsule.

Does “maximum” mean the NUMBER 2.2k shouldn’t be exceeded?

Or does it mean that the resistance in ohms shouldn’t be GREATER, which is an inverse number.

Totally unsure.

Power Line Signals

August 10, 2010 by Carl Blare

This link speaks about power line signalling disturbing HF radio, but I ask opinion on whether it would also add noise to the AM band?

Also, what would happen if carrier current were being applied. Would signals collide?

Academic Curiosity

Experimentation in mind with this idea. Then later we’ll apply the rules.

Has anybody ever fed the 100mW output of a part15 transmitter into a wide-band audio amp (with all high frequency attenuation removed)? Let’s pretend it’s a 10-watt amplifier.

Play it safe, we’re using a dummy load.

Perfect Newscasts for Parts 15

July 30, 2010 by Carl Blare

After looking into the various daily news feeds available for part 15 micro-stations, I’ve just inked a deal with a wonderful news service from New York City.

After looking into the various daily news feeds available for part 15 micro-stations, I’ve just inked a deal with a wonderful news service from New York City.

I.N.N. World Report is updated several times per day, with the best voices on any newscasts I’ve heard. A female and male take turns telling ONLY the important stories: no Lindsy Lohan (although her situation matters, but it’s NOT an oil spill).

http://www.innworldreport.net/inn/

International News Report (I.N.N.) provides two months free, then asks $1 per day Monday through Friday, but in their words they will “Make arrangements” for the stations who cannot afford the price.

But I absolutely want this sterling service, and consider the price to be TOO FAIR.

Hello W.E.Z.R.

July 29, 2010 by Carl Blare

A new station just logged in, W.E.Z.R., a carrier current station of wb3kyj.

A new station just logged in, W.E.Z.R., a carrier current station of wb3kyj.

How great to have a carrier current operator. Not long ago we held a vary long discussion here about carrier current, and the subject became more and more interesting with the many things that were said.

I hope W.E.Z.R. will offer deep description of the equipment being used, the transmitter, power, frequency, coupler and all experience about getting it to work and distance covered.

I am planning to start carrier current, but the knowledge needs a little help.

Thank you and welcome.
