You do know there is the Florida Satellite Network for news feeds in FLA?

FSN, Feature Story News, has very polished newscasts.

But the last newscast of the week is a "Week in Review" episode, with no fresh newscasts all weekend.

I have always been mystified as to how world news doesn't happen on weekends or Christmas.

MRAM brought up the idea of discussing a Part 15 news cooperative, and my proposal will be to start it as a weekend service, filling a huge gap.

Although still a good idea to think about, starting a Part 15 weekend news service would take a lot of effort on the part of many. But another approach would be far easier to do...

"Journalism review" is an entire science in its own realm, there are broadcast programs and print newspapers that "review" news stories posted by other news reporting sources. A fair substitute word might be "criticism."

This might be perfect for those who believe the news is non-objective and serves certain agendas. As a journalist reviewer, one would present a particular story and then point out its hidden side, its mistakes, its omissions.

I have the air time available if someone wants to produce a journalistic review show.

I am keenly interested in touchy topics. This is something found all across the media spectrum, from broadcast programming to postings on face book. I always wonder, "Why are certain topics taboo?"

We are entering the week of September 11 and a vast amount of touchy tabooness attaches to lingering questions about this violent event in our history back on September 11, 2001.

Rather than bring up questions about the claims surrounding the events of that day, I am bringing up something else: I am bringing up the question of why it should be forbidden to discuss the subject openly and with deep concern for the truth.

What power or agency or authority is placing a pall of fear over any question or review of the event?

For yourself as an individual, you can look within your own mind and ask, "Why do I feel uncomfortable about discussing 9/11 with an open mind?"

Another question to ask, is "Why do I have an opinion while I haven't taken any other testimony into account and base my opinion only on headline news that I have never verified?"

The trail of control over what we think and how our minds work goes very deep and leads back to other taboos which even I avoid raising at this time.

And also I have been doing a 10-minute show available for stations which need a 10-minute fill. Several stations signed on as affiliates at the outset, and topics discussed often include broadcast and Part 15 topics. For example, programs 199 and 200 discuss the contour map dBu readings talked about right here on the forum.

If you carry the show let me know and you'll be added to the Official Affiliates List.

Blare OnAir Lite contains opinions which tend to be pretty good for being made up on the spot.

This thread is devoted to Challenges made to the Part 15 gang to accomplish anything that gets suggested during this thread.

We were talking about radio news services available to Part 15, and while I find the main problem to be lack of a weekend service, I have found and am using a newly discovered weekday service that is very exceptional. It's called "BUZZ BURBANK NEWS & COMMENTARY," Monday through Friday.

Let is know what you think. Now another idea.

I have a radio tuned to AM 1550 but my transmitter is off, so I am only receiving the pops and crackles that get sparked from time to time. It's interesting to study AC line noise.

For example, I just learned that if I open the refrigerator door there is a loud POP, and again upon closing. That's probably the refrigerator lightbulb.

Did you know that a circuit can be built to watch the AC line voltage on a volt meter and keep track of the accuracy over time? I wonder what the refrig pop would look like on that meter.

Other AC noise comes over the radio from time to time which remains a mystery. Some crackles sound like an airplane just crashed into the power pole and all the wiring is tangled up on the street. What is causing that noise?

There's work to be done. Don't waste all day reading these websites.

The City department I work for maintains City radio equipment.  So, when a citizen calls to complain about interference to their home entertainment such as radio, TV, audio players, etc, we are called upon to locate the source of the noise complaint.

The majority of these noise problems are usually something within the residence of the complaintant.  Thermostatically controlled heating devices such as baby food warmers, heating pads, aquarium heaters are a good source of noise.  Doorbell transformers failing also make a racket.  Anything with a problem that causes arcing...

Many years ago during the fall and winter months there was an electrical noise that was interfering with my TV, radios and audio systems.  It was so strong I figured it was in my house.  Could not find it.  Finally I turned off the main breaker to silence everything in my house.  Still, the noise persisted.

I took a portable AM radio outside and started walking.  The noise was even stronger around my neighbors house.  Short story-it was a defective heating pad which was turned on every evening around 7pm and stayed on till 11pm.  Placing the heating pad to my ear I could hear arcing.  Good thing, could have caused a fire.

Some noises come from bad lightning protectors and insulators on utility poles.  Some from intentional noise makers like ARC welders and AC/DC power tools.

We live in a sea of noise makers.  It would be nice to pull the big switch downtown so we could listen to natural noise.

Since this thread, CHALLENGE, is all about many kinds of advancements in Part 15 radio, it is about finding good programs.

Carl Blare spends a certain amount of time checking out new programs he finds available, but sometimes runs into a big dud.

I checked out one tonight that used deceptive advertising on its own website to attract interest, I won't name the show, it doesn't deserve being mentioned.

The beginning of the program was beset by poor audio, but I endured that so I could hear what the host had to say. I thought he might be the successor to Kevin Smith, since he claimed extra-para-normal-wierd experience kind of talk.

And I can say his lead-in, with audio drop-outs, was well presented. But the bottom line was that he was prostelytizing the "truth" of Bible, God, Jesus, angels, miracles, and all the trappings of everyday religious clap-trap.

DELETE!

Hi mir. No, I am not familiar with cybermen. It must be bad, though, for you to think of it after my giant put down of the unnamed program.

Thank you, mir, for adding wisdom to my smartness.

Now I can think about that "bad program" which I didn't like, and say...

DELETE AND EXTERMINATE!
