The Challenge is mine, saith the Carl.
In this flaming eternal forum I want to put challenges to the Part 15 army. There are things we can do; big things; things that matter. Follow me.
The first Challenge is to come up with ways of using the Raspberry Pi to totally remote control all of your transmitters and anything else you hook to it. If you don't yet know what that means, don't give up already. It will be explained. May I have a volunteer to explain it please?
Challenge No. 2 is to start a radio news service devoted to WORLD NEWS. That's an important category that needs audio feeds EVERY THREE HOURS letting us know what's going on in the whole world. To accomplish this you will need to give assignments to family members, friends and neighbors. They've got to stay on the job seven days a week! No more of this three-day-weekend stuff when there is no world news.
Challenge No. 3 is up to you. What challenges do YOU bring to the Challenge Forum?
No more time off. Life is serious business and we need to get in there and make it a Part 15 success!
Thats to funny Carl, I was having a conversation with a fellow part15'er on skype the other day and we talkin about how we with there was a service to subscribe to, so that we could rebroadcast a workd news report once per hour, a few times a day etc. Would be cool if just a few part15'ers could get together each taking a different section of world news once a day then upload to a server for all to share then just put it in the live or automation ratation. Just rambling, but I think you get the idea ๐
GREAT IDEA !
Groo
Yes, Mr. Groo, your way of seeing the idea is superb!
If we all pitched in and submitted world news clips, think of what we could do!
CNN and MSNBC would be history!
The Part 15 Report.
Big stuff from little radio.
Stand up straight!
I'd like to be able to get a Raspberry PI to do ANYTHING. Anything at all.
Bruce, DOGRADIO
I made my raspberry pi into a barix box..
The only issue with the pi is the lack of an onboard DSP, I built one, but it sounds like ass... so I ended up with the behringer USB dongle to make it work.
What I would LOVE to do with the Rpi is connect the GPIO to a relay control or some solid state version of on off switches, and then have it handle frequency agility and capacitor tuning for the AMT-5000 - now that would be killer.
My first challenge is to find the time to get my Part 15 station back up and running on the Internet (I've got it 'sort of' running over the air, but need to do some fine tuning).
My 2nd challenge is to find the time (see the pattern here) to do some voice recording so that I can get some randomized playlists up and running - currently, I use TTS (Text To Speech) with a decent voice but it lacks that personal touch (and a lot of information to go along with each song in the playlist).
My third challenge is to find the time to attend a meeting of the ALPB soon. We'll have to see about that one - maybe September).
has been an issue here as well. Between a family issue (not with me and my wife, thankfully), a terminally ill pet, and the deaths of two friends during August, I am just overwhelmed.
Regarding world news, one source you might want to look into is http://www.featurestorynews.com. Their newscasts are non-commercial and I believe they are Part 15 and LPFM friendly.
Very cool post RadioBoy! Do you know if they charge a fee of some kind and if so how much?
Groo
First, radioboy, I'm very sad for the losses in your life. It is at such times that the radio pastime is wonderful because it gives us a way of being busy and distracted, so that we can adjust to such unfortunate events.
And Groo, I dug around and found that evidentally there is an honor system at FSN.
On the one-hand I clicked on the "Listen to FSN News Podcast" and it downloaded a current newscast to my computer, while in the "subscribe" section they offer a $15 per month charge for small stations.
The newscast was ultra professional and like a dream come true for stations wanting to "tap the world" for news.
This CHALLENGE is going really well!
Hey Cark,
I been lookin all over for sub page you were talkin aboot and I cant seem to find it. If you had time, could you like it to me please?
Thanks,
Groo ๐
The link from the FSN site is tiny and hard to find, but here's where it goes
Artisan Radio carried FSN News for years. I found it was still dominated by U.S. news but at least it recognized that other countries do exist.
yeah - this is dope as heck.. ive just subscribed to fsn...
its super hard to find "just plain news" without all the weirdo personal opion bits thrown in ... personally, i dont like most politics, but i dont think its cool for me to press those opinions on you ๐
Thanks for that link sorry for the misstype Carl ๐ Yeah, I am going to sub to that I think. Local news I got covered, but that FSN feed is just cool and CHEAP!

If I am able to get the LPFM I am considering carrying it as well. My Part 15/Internet station used to carry IRN/USA News.
