AM 1620 Aircheck

April 22, 2016 by rock95seven

A some what quick and dirty aircheck recorded off of a cheap radio wired into the line input of the computer. You can hear noise creeping in from a high powered AM station and a bit of distortion at the beginning.

I also switched back and forth between 1610 , 1620 and 1630 which surprised me with some splatter. Otherwise the sound isn’t too bad for hard rock on AM.

Moving The FM Counterpart

April 10, 2016 by rock95seven

The other night i posted that I was moving from 1610 Khz up to 1620 Khz
Seen Here

Wellll, here we go again but on the FM this time.
A friend of mine has built his LPFM and it is on 102.5 FM out of Viper ,Ky with under 100 watts of power at 16 miles away from my location. The reason i am moving the FM is obviously to avoid causing interference to his LPFM.

Even though his station will be 16 miles away on 102.5, i don’t really think my micro powered FM would cause problems for his listeners but to be a good radio neighbor and because I told him that I would move the FM, i am in fact moving Blue Bucket Radio to 89.7 Mhz which has open channels on both sides. 85.9 and 89.9 are both empty here and allows a buffer zone we look for to avoid causing interference to licensed stations and the listeners.

Aggravating as it might seem at first, it is necessary and I can be confident that my microscopic signal won’t be causing anyone grief, and changing frequencies on the Ramsey FM 25 B is simple.

I have attached a screenshot of Radio Locator Vacant Frequency search results for FM in my area.

I gotta go now, i have a website to edit now.
Carl, I guess you know what this means, you might need to edit the FM Dial chart to reflect the change.  Blue Bucket Radio 89.7 FM Thanks.

Sorry, it’s late and I wrote the wrong frequency 89.7 FM is CORRECT. sheesh

Moved Blue Bucket Radio

April 8, 2016 by rock95seven

I have mentioned in the past that Blue Bucket Radio is located near the top  of a mountain and one of the things that comes with living at a higher elevation is that radio waves propagate rather well from directions where there are no obstructions. In our case, we are near the top of a mountain but in a valley surrounded by two ridges in front of and behind our home.

Still Medium Waves find their way to our receivers with no problems, in fact i have heard our old frequency (1520 khz)  with very little sky wave one night and then the next night there are a few high powered stations fighting to be on top. So I moved to 1610 khz but there is two stations i was having trouble with a night and during critical hours, a spanish station on 1610 and another spanish station on 1600, the station on 1600 khz would cause splash over on 1610 khz mixing with my signal and the signal from the high powered 1610.

So after a week of listening with my transmitter off, 1620 seemed to be the best choice, it doesn’t receive splash over from 1610 or 1630 and I hear no strong signals on 1620 that would present a problem at night. Seems like a good choice for now, that is until the FCC intervenes and a strong station takes over 1620 khz.

It could happen, just something we have to deal with when it happens.

So for now, we are on 1620 Khz and still on 102.7 FM

Thanks

You’re Never Too Old For Radio

November 18, 2015 by rock95seven

Nice story a friend posted on Facebook.

Headline:

“SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)– CDs are loaded, headphones are on, levels look good.
93.3 WXLN DJ, Paul Morris’ radio show is under way. It’s 2 hours– part Bluegrass, part gospel.

Morris is “up in the years” as he likes to say, 79-years-young to be exact. He broadcasts his show from the Amber Oaks Assisted Living facility.”
