Hi guy’s,

I am back and have a request for whoever want’s to lend their voice to
Blue Bucket Radio. I have a script for a station ID and was wondering if everyone would care to record the station id for me and then post the final product here as an mp3 at 128 kbps mono.

If you don’t feel like it that’s great too, i am not picky.
I just thought it would be cool to have everyone that wants to particpate in this project record the station id then i would download their version and then add them into zararadio to be shuffled throught the week.

In return, i could record station i.d.’s for you as well.
Just post a script in the comments and i will record it for you and post it here for download.

This morning i logged into facebook to see a message from my wife Stephanie with an invitation to a weather spotter class given out free by our local tv station WYMT-TV.

After some time thinking it over, i siad to Stephanie, We should go to this class together and of course she had already thought of that.

With both of us being weather buff’s and having this part 15 radio station, this class could come in handy.

So, I guess we are signed up for a 2-hour class to become weather spotters for WYMT-TV and NWS. Whoohoo!

Looks like more storms on the way.
You know i could be a storm chaser and face the storms head on with no fear but when they cause devistation i have to draw the line there.

As you know we barely escaped flooding here Monday and Tuesday only because the rainfall amount originally forecast for our area fell short so there was enough time for the creeks and rivers to move the excess water away from town.

Creeks are still doing the moving right now, i hope the storms fizzle as much as i hate to admit this, storms have some nasty side affects.

By the way, I made an official channel on YouTube for BB-TV (thanks Carl Blare for the idea)
Right now i have a video uploading to that channel. It is the video i shared on this blog but with footage from the flash flooding back in 2014 and a road block caused by a rock slide in 2015.

I will be posting weather related videos, random silliness and maybe some radio related stuff on the BB-TV channel.

We have some pretty nasty weather happening right now in Eastern Kentucky.

Several storms have already moved through the region and there are more to follow, thunderstorm watch until 10 pm ET and flash flood watches until 2 a.m. ET Tuesday morning. The creeks were already on the rise from storms we had the past couple of days and it’s looking like we may have another flooding situation like we had a year ago.

Currently Blue Bucket Radio is airing NOAA Weather Radio from 162.475 Mhz using the satellite feature in Zararadio with station i.d. , temperature, humidity and time  updates firing at the top of the hour. All other programming is suspended until further notice or in the event we lose power.

Power outages are common around here in the event of severe storms, we have been lucky so far but keeping an eye on the creeks and radar.

Has anyone else noticed dead spots inside their property while listening to their AM signal doing work in the yard etc.

Here is what i am getting at.

I was using my trusty AM/FM/WB Sony Walkman and a set of over the ear headphones to listen to Blue Bucket Radio 1620 while mowing the yard.

I could have fired up the FM transmitter just to listen while working in the yard but i wanted to see how the AM would hold up while i moved around the yard.
It didn’t do so well, in fact it would fade out to the point where i could hear the mower louder than the radio, then it would pop back into the receiver nice and strong.

My impression is that the antenna being in an L shape is only really radiating off of the shorter more vertical section of wire, the horizontal section which is made up of more than half the legnth of the antenna is wasting power on a horizontal plane.

Our receivers have horizontal bar antennas inside the radio, if i moved a lot while pushing the mower or just walking around the yard the signal would come and go because of a null produced by changing the antenna’s orientation to the transmitted signal. Sometimes i was in the vertical plane, other times in the horizontal plane which would yield very little signal or not enough to provide a listenable reception.

I was also able to rule out the cable line running the length of the yard as a carrier current since no matter where i was, be it under the cable in the air or one either side, the tv/internet cable would not increase the signal strength, so if my cable is re-radiating any of BBR’s 1620 signal then it isn’t as much as i had hoped it would be.

It should be noted that we have more side yard than we do back yard, in fact it only takes 20 minutes to mow the back yard and 2 hours with breaks for water to mow the rest of our yard. That side yard is in direct line with the studio where the AMT3000 transmitter is running.

Looks as though i need to place the transmitter on the floor and run the antenna up the wall facing the yard rather than havng the tx sitting on the desk and the antenna in a bent or L shape.

On the upside, I have had the TH 5.0 on 540 khz re-transmitting NOAA weather radio, that antenna is wrapped around the cable line coming into the house, that signal actually gets out pretty well. It covers the same distance as the AMT3000
