I had a disagreement with my database and lost most of the content.
Now I am taking my time and re-entering the lost content and checking the database as I go along.

RDS On Part 15

February 16, 2009 by rock95seven

Hey Guys,
Just curious, does RDS work on part 15 FM & AM?

Also does it require extra hardware or maybe just use the rds function on the Stereo Tool plugin?

Free Radio London returns as The Axe

Sort of.

I received the new/used dell optiplex gx260 on Wednesday, been trying to get it ready for use as the on-air computer.

I finally realized the problem i was having with the networking.
Hubs aren’t made to provide internet and networking on more than one or two computers… at least that is what alot of forums are saying.

So the on-air at this point doesnt have internet or networking…YET.
We put in another order on Ebay after finding some wireless nic’s cheap and in bulk. The on-air computer can share a connection with the kids router, while me and my wife share our own network/internet on the hub. The nic’s are on their way, they are wireless so i will enable wireless on the kids computers as well as the on-air computer using the wireless nics we bought on ebay. Im putting the kids computers in their rooms, much better on our sanity that way lol.

As far as performance goes, the new dell seems to be pretty fast and hardly broke a sweat when i ran several things at one time.
Later today i will install Zararadio and load all the audio files i saved from the dead computer and run it like it was on the air only using speakers instead of a transmitter. That way if it messed up i wont be on the air , i can fix the trouble and see if i can prevent that error from happening again.

Sound quality of the new optiplex seems pretty good listening with headphones, no hash or trash to speak of.

I also snapped some pictures of the neighborhood, originally i took the pictures because of the bad weather we had , but after looking at them i realized they would help illustrate our potential coverage area.

Ill let everyone know when i post them and place a link to the pics on this blog. Until then.. keep on rockin’

Free Radio London goes off the air

February 1, 2009 by rock95seven

I have decided to close down free radio london in favor of podcasting.

I have decided to close down free radio london in favor of podcasting.

We have had a good run for 2 years on 95.7 fm /1630 am but the cost of running the station full time has set us back a bit on our budget here at home. The on-air computer has developed problems with the soundcard.

Stuttering sound coming from mp3’s, wav files lead me to believe the soundcard has been overworked. It was probably never meant to run continously. I will probably put the transmitters in storage for awhile until things improve.

As always, your helpful insights will always be appreciated and never forgotten. I will remain a member of Part15.us as this is almost like a second home for me.

Thanks again from

new gear for a new year

January 9, 2009 by rock95seven

Free Radio London gets much needed new gear for the new year.

Free Radio London gets much needed new gear for the new year.

My wonderful wife order a Podcastudio from Berhringer as a christmas gift. I have to admit, this package is alot more than i expected.

Before I got the new gear, i was using a cheap microphone from walmart and the mixer provided by windows to record announcements, liners and i.d.’s. It worked but was not the most ideal setup for radio.

Most of the recordings i created were then edited using Audacity, wich i still use. Now with the Podcastudio, i can record directly to Audacity as well as mix other sources thru the five channel mixing board. It doubles as the on-air board too, all i have to do is plug in to the main out running to the transmitter or the soundcard on the studio computer.

The microphone is a solidly built Behringer Ultravoice condenser designed mostly for spoken or vocal work. It sounds great and feels like a SHURE SM58 as far as weight goes. It doesnt feel like your holding a cheap $9 walmart mic. The mic comes with a desktop stand.

The mixer offers the following:
channel 1 offers xlr and 1/4 ” jacks for the main microphone, bass, treble, trim and pan.
channels 2 thru 5 are fed with 1/4″ phone jacks, 1 each for left and right channels or just use the left channel mixed down to mono as well as a balance control. Left and right channel 1/4 jacks for main out.
Headphone Jack and Volume. Main mix, 4 segment led meter. 4 left and right input output rca jacks you can feed to you computer using a rca to usb interface provided as part of the package and buttons to monitor thru headphones for tape/cd etc.
Wrap around headphones, software and drivers are provided too.

Overall, if i had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 id give it 9 1/2 only because Behringer put an ultra bright blue power on led on this mixer that leaves you seeing spots even when your not looking directly at the led. Other than that, you can use the mixer to record podcasts, shows, liners, i.d.’s or plug it directly into your transmitter or recorder and mix without a computer.
It really is a great deal at $99.99 from walmart online, if you bought it from Behringers website it would cost alot more.

I also like the fact it is compact, i really dont have much room here.
Here is the webpage if youd like more details.
