I am standing in for Dog Radio Studio 2 in posting this message, he is busy in his War Room, but he will appear shortly for a more formal notification.

This show is V1, then later, after I add four more minutes we will release V2.

Contemplations On Radio

August 11, 2012 by Carl Blare

Small chunks of memory float around in the brain for years, then suddenly meet other chunks of memory and a new thought is born.

Small chunks of memory float around in the brain for years, then suddenly meet other chunks of memory and a new thought is born.

The new thought of the moment is the realization that part 15 broadcasting is the “top of the line”, the “ultimate in quality”, the “mecca of excellence”.

The small memory chunks that bring this new thought into mind include something a radio engineer said in the 1960s.

The engineer explained that the reason radio stations broadcast with such high power is to allow the radio manufacturing industry to produce inferior, cheap, insensitive radios. He said that if high quality radios were the norm, much lower radiated powers would do the job.

The second memory chunk recalls what we talk about now here at part15.us…. the milliWatt signals are best received on very high quality, sensitive radios.

Therefore part 15 broadcasting represents the green, efficient, non-polluting world of our dreams. No drain on the power grid.

Full power licensed stations are brute-force frackers; electronic oil-spillers; energy squanderers.

Unplug them. Unplug them all.

One Great Step for Guykind

August 11, 2012 by Carl Blare

It’s been a few days with the Spectrum Analyzer. I have looked at many RF signals and learned more and more about interpreting the peaks and valleys shimmering on the screen.

It’s been a few days with the Spectrum Analyzer. I have looked at many RF signals and learned more and more about interpreting the peaks and valleys shimmering on the screen.

Then another eureka moment when I remembered the wireless mic set for 184.3 mHz, the unused TV channel 8 here locally….

I tuned the analyzer to the exact channel, grabbed the mic and flipped it on, and there was this magnificent carrier standing proudly to the very top of the display. I slowly left the room, and could still see that big peak staying large and not falling off too soon.

The house is only 37-feet long, and when I was against the back wall, the carrier was down by only a small amount.

One small step for this guy, one great step for guykind.

This is the site of a certified AM transmitter not often mentioned, the Grain Industries GI100/1000.

Part 15 Expansion Plan

August 6, 2012 by Carl Blare

In previous posts I have conjectured about filling every open frequency with a part 15 image of your programming, balancing the lack of power by a dominance of presence. To a small degree that’s what I do, with 4x AMs and 3x FMs.

Such grouping of frequencies in a single area is very much at the chance of good frequency choices in given locations, which is different from place to place.

Assuming a goodly number of frequency openings, another approach came into mind just four minutes ago.

It would be quite interesting and a lot of fun to re-broadcast the streams coming from other part 15 broadcasters so that your local dial would contain as many of them as you could fit into the available resources.

To do this, a powerful internet connection/computer would play a key role to simultaneously stream several signals.

But once it was all happening, you would have a smorgasbord of choices all over the dial.

All Clear Storm Watch

August 5, 2012 by Carl Blare

One hour ago the area was put under a severe storm watch. The sky was blazing with lightning, so KDX went on alert.

One hour ago the area was put under a severe storm watch. The sky was blazing with lightning, so KDX went on alert.

We shut down the 3 AM transmitters, disconnected from grounds, antennas and power. Computer off. Basement prepared for emergency shelter.

Some rain and one very close BLAM! of lightning/thunder, then things moved east.

One station only was doing a live trivia show, and did a joking version of weather reporting. Their AM transmitter kept sputtering, I’m not sure what was happening with that.

Will re-connect everything in the morning.
