Look I get on the Internet many webmasters have probably been told a few times from the authorities to stop this and that. Many other Radio forums may have had to put a kibosh to anything that looks gray if fear for themselves. Bot other offshore Radio forums are more free because they are outside the USA so you can freely express your opinions. Yet a non US Radio forum will still tell you when the rules may be violated and if you do XYZ as posted be aware its against the rules. This way its still up to the operator of the station as to their conduct. It does get sticky on any Radio forum. There are some that are so fearful that the moderator has to approve every single post anyone makes. There is a part 15 forum that I am a member of that does exactly that. I don't post there very often and when I do it is really basic. I feel sort of put off if I can interact in real time. There is a happy medium when talking about this stuff and members need to know what is outright legal and what isn't and what may be gray. WE know FM is a very sore subject here in the USA. Some (Like Me) use it and some are fearful of it and don't which is fine with me too. But if the AM revitalization act that was approved by the FCC does take place it may change things there too. Google it, you'll find lots of stuff you should read. I'm not going to do any hear say here on the subject, but it is something everyone needs to read up on. If licensed Radio stations suddenly see AM as a viable source for broadcasting some of you may find your part 15 hobby broadcasting days commong to an abrupt end unless you move from where you live.
To add my two cents.
This is a true case and point.
At another forum board I used to visit, that appears to be strictly to the rules, posted about a new station profile that was added to the main site page.
In this topic, the station owner who clearly posted that his station was located in a state on the west coast of the USA and broadcasted on the USA FM broadcasting band reached 3 miles to cover the intended city from his transmitter location.
The site owner, who is notorious to throw disclaimers on any questionable posts, congradulated the station owner on his station.
I interveined into that topic and asked, how is it that one posts disclaimers as an administrator on minor mention of the FM broadcast band, but here, clearly in that thread, this member mentions 3 miles from his FM antenna to a nearby city and nothing and I mean nothing is said about 3 miles on FM in the USA is illegal! Nada!
I asked, doesn't his range make his station illegal?
The site owner replies, it is not my position to tell someone how to run their station, therefore, I have more of a problem with you Bruce complaining and causing un-needed off topic accusations on another member's station.
The laws are the laws for everyone to follow, not just a choice few, that for whatever reason that person seems fit.
This site might have issues with so called moderation and some may prefer over there becuase moderation is more stricter, however, over there, it simply depends who you are and who you know and what you can get away with regardless of federal laws.
Instead of attacking me, mr FCC wannabe should have said you are right and attacked the guy who said he was broadcasting 3 miles from his FM antenna to a nearby city.
Some part 15 site owners play the flute at both ends and that makes matters even worse than a simple forum member mentioning 87.9MHz!
I have never seen a post such as that here at part15.us and it should not have been allowed over there either if you get my point.
Bruce.
Check out the thread I believe. It is all about Pro FM. I do see your point.
It is all about Pro FM. I do see your point.
What defines "Pro FM" systems?
Does the FCC recognize/authorize them?
I believe that he is referring to the initiative to gain more field strength/power/range on Part 15 FM.
That is right. We need folks who see the value in this. See I Bilieve in. That is the FM initiative thread now.
Pro meaning "In favor of." Not sure if how the FCC feels about this though. I think I will give them a call and share Rich's concerns.
I think right now we need to work on a document that will work as again you'll find out more about how I am wishing to construct a petition. I may include 87.7 and 87.9 Mhz in that petition although 87.9 is no longer safe heaven here as there is a licensed station that seems to have turned up their power in Hampton University. I've moved my frequency back to 96.3 Mhz again. No longer using 87.9 nor anything below 88.1 Mhz until the white space proposal becomes law. Even then not sure how this will help. Please direct all your questions to I believe in so we don't get off topic in other areas.
The FCC already has plans the this part of the spectrum. You guys are a day late and a dollar short. Sorry. ๐
