I have the orginal V1 and a V5. Both circuit boards are marked V 1.1 So what is the difference? The V5 BTW is not enhanced.
Hi WDCX: As for ver. 1 compaired to ver 5.0.
I really don't know what changes they made do to they keep items closed very well at radio systems do to i tried to get information from them before.
I can tell you from working in electronic industries field for 14 years allot of company will use the same mother board and make modification or rev. to the board for improvement instead of ordering new boards do to the cost.
I will contact dan and see if he will disclose any information.
As for my Talking house 5.0 & i.A.M. am tx i own both have the same mother boards version but there is 15 different mods betwen the two units.
The I.A.M. Radio am tx has the 15 different mods in it.
hope this helps on some things.

I thought that V1 was the old one with a cassette deck that was used in a loop. There was a hack for it that allowed you to simply solder a Audio jack to it and drill a hole for the jack in the case. I saw the mod for that on Youtube. Some of those I bet are around as well. If you really wanted to be simple you could buy a cassette adaptor. But I'm sure teh audio and range would be no where near the new 5.0 or iAM.
Station 8...if you have the version 5 AND the newer "enchanced" one with the factory "mods" is there a difference you can hear in sound quality? They have supposedly improved the modulation to 100% also....any difference compared to the original 5.0 version?

Hi Mark: I have both Talking House ver 5.0 & I.A.M. am Tx.
The only test i did on the I.A.M. tx was ran for a bit and it sounded ok at the time.
The Talking House ver 5.0 i tested on a copper ant & conduit ant, Here are the results.
The sound quality was great on copper antenna, Range was very Good.
The sound quality was very bad and the range was very bad on conduit ant.
Keep in mind that antenna and location and trash getting into your transmitter can cause you to have all kinds of issue in range and audio quality.
I'm in mist, right now building a new atu system for the talking house tx unit and when
i'm done i will do a test on both units to see the sound quality on units here.
sorry i don't have more to say,But been busy on new ant and atu test.

Hi Guys: I had time to sneak a quick test in on T.H Ver. 5.0 & I.A.M. Am Tx.
Set up was in the same room, Same Ant, Same audio source, 75 ohm ouput source.
Receiver used National Panasonic DR-49.
1st Test was on Talking House Ver. 5.0
1) Atu Meter reading showed 7 with dead carrier.
2) Audio Quality - Hear more high's, Not as Bassy.
3) Display Color - Green.
4) Box - New! Advanced! Talking House, Feature layout was different from I.A.M Box
2nd Test was on I.A.M. Radio Am Tx.
1) Atu Meter reading showed 5 with dead carrier.
2) Audio Quality - More softer bass in audio , But still could hear some highs.
3) Display Color - Green.
4) Box - New! Advanced! i A.M. Radio Features layout was different from Talking House box.
Mother Board and display boards are the same in the talking house ver 5.0 and i.a.m. radio tx.
Except the modificaton / revesion that make the unit better, And all radio system did was change the name between the 2 units that's all. ( Talking House 5.0 / I.A.M. Radio Tx ).
In my own opinion.
My preference would be the Talking House 5.0 due to the highs i could hear better.
But still would use the I.A.M. Radio Tx except use a eq for what i want.
Both are good units, But you need to control what you want for audio quality !
Hopes this help you out.

Thanks for the review, comparison Station8. I'd have to wonder if the bandwidth of the IAM is smoother because it's flatter now. The highs might be better in the Talking House 5.0, but is that because there's a lack of bass? You'd also want to know if there's pre-emphasis applied to either of the transmitters' audio.
I don't know the model number of my TH, same case style, but an earler model from when they were sold by the ton to realtors way back. It lacks bass or treble really, it's all mid range. It doesn't have "broadcast quality" professional sound, and trying to equalize the sound didn't do much, the audio just seemed to get more mushy.
Still, a nice transmitter, it does work well and it gets out.
