1610 is also a fantastic choice, no licensed stations at all!

That is true.  I should have clarified that 1690 was good because it's near the top of the band. 1700 has a few more stations including one here in Florida.  It is a 10KW station near Miami but even though, it can stll be heard in West Central Florida in the daytime.

I get a lot of Hetro on 1610 here.  In fact 1630 is far more quiet at night nere.  Now the daytime is different.  If you want to run 24/7 I have found that even 1620 is more quiet than 1610.  It would be nice if they do have a frequency set for LPAM as part 15 AM is starting to be called.

Most of the X band is clear during the day here in the Vancouver, BC, Canada area (there's a foreign language station on 1620 but that's about it.

It's during the nighttime that stations roll in.  I found that 1650 was the clearest here most nights - 1690 wasn't clear.  Unfortunately, that 1620 station generates interference on 1610 both day and night, so it isn't an option.

NIght tends to be the problem for any Part 15 station.

No X band frequencies are really that good here because there are a lot of TIS stations spread across this band. This means most empty channels have signals on adjacent channels and some of them are fairly strong.

Seems every berg here thinks it needs TIS. Ours is broadcasting a winner board and traffic instructions for the Memorial Tournament which was held last June. Truly vital and timely information.

On the Mississippi River at the Center of North America we have a 5 kW station on 1600, which kills 1610 and 1620.

1630 has an efficient station in Iowa which comes in here in the daytime.

1640 is good, nearest station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and we use it for KHZ, the Indoor Antenna Experimental Station.

1650 has something going on, there's a distant station on it.

1660 has a Kansas City station that is heard here.

KDX AMT5000 uses 1670.

1680 a station in Michigan.

1690 a station in Chicago.

1700 a strong buzz second harmonic from a local at 850.

1710 is clear and the new home of our experimental station operating at the lowest power in the world. In fact we have applied for a power decrease.

Well my 1690 test got clocked by a station in Avondale Estates, GA around 6PM local time.  The FCC Database says 10KW Daytime and 1KW at night.  The music was pretty good as they were playing Cream.  The DJ was discussing the musical history of Ginger Baker. Maybe there is hope for AM radio still.

I was going to say I was pretty sure that was WMLB. I've caught them once here in North Texas. KKLF on 1700 makes things a tad difficult however.

I tried to get WRCR at night on 1700 but I hear other stations beating against each other. Sometimes I do pick them out however. 1690 at night is a mess of stations beating against each other.

DX on 1700 used to be easier when KVNS was Classic Hits.

KVNS makes pretty regular appearences in Europe.

Wow mighty that is interesting.  Yea maybe AM does have a potential now.  At least Shortwave is something I really would like to toy with.
