I was really bored and sifting thru the various part 15 websites i have bookmarked, after reading a few stories about sucessful part 15 am stations i decided it was a good time as any to dust off the sstran and give it another look-see.
I found a bad solder joint and will be fixing it after i post this blog or when the baby takes her next nap. (probably when she takes a nap 🙂 I was blown away by the hi-fi sound coming out of my cheap boombox on AM!

This kit really does live up to it’s name.
My range was awful at first but after tuning, grounding it to the cable splitter then hanging the wire antenna i heard a dramatic increase in modulation.

Range inside my 16×70 mobile home was good considering all the metal around me.
I patched into the feed on the fm25b for audio, turned off the processing software then adjusted the compression on the sstran. WoW! It really does sound great.

My wife agreed that it sounded as good as fm.
I am really pleased with this rig and ill keep you posted on my progress as i get ready to build the antenna.

I cant believe i had two chips reversed on my amt3000.
I have placed the chips in their rightful places and the transmitter works.

The signal could be stronger, i am getting a hetrodyne or whine mixed in the signal and the signal isnt very strong.
Then again i am listening to it from inside a mobile home. Could not hear it outside with the wire antenna hanging on the wall and the ground not connected.

My mobile home is roughly 70 feet long and the signal was weaker on the opposite side of the house.

So it sounds like i may have caused some damage to the unit somehow maybe there is a transistor in the wrong place. I have the capacitors in place for use with the provided wire antennna and cannot tune it for anything above 1000 khz as you may know.

What should i look for now? Again, i do not have meter to check for voltages or other trouble so it makes this tough.

I dont know what went wrong, i took my time and carefully checked my work but i still cant seem to get my sstran to transmit.

Though i had a hard time reading some of the color bands on the resistors, i had my wonderful wife check the colors for me just to be sure.

She is even checking over my work now as i type this blog.
Now i know its going to be hard for anyone to troubleshoot the tx without actually looking it over themselves but i am at a loss.

I do not have multimeter to check for voltage at the moment but the l.e.d does light and the voltage regualtor gets warm.

I tried different setting for frequencies across the band, starting with 1700 khz , 1000 khz and 530 khz but still no rf , no carrier.

Any ideas?
In the past i have always had luck on my side when it came to building kits, heck ive owned 3 different ramsey tx’s but this is the first time ive had one not work at all.

If i still cant get it working in the next 2 days, i may send it back and have the guys at sstran check it for me.

Until then i will stay on with the FM.

I am also impressed with the instruction manual, very easy to read and understand. I took a break from building since i need to run to the store, but so far its been a breeze.

I have most of the resistors installed at this point.
Looks like by tomarrow i should be on the air testing the antenna and audio section.

I see a bright future for Free Radio London.
Ill let you guys know how everything turns out.

Free Radio London will be joining the ranks on A.M. 1630,
we just put our order in for the SStran AMT3000-SM.

Our frequency will be a.m. 1630 with the same format as our f.m. counterpart, but hopefully with much greater range and sound.
Music from independent artists, talk show’s such as Free Talk Live, Alex Jones, weather from Pirateweather.com and news from FSN.

As for 95.7 F.M. , I really havent decided what to do with it.
On one hand, we could still use f.m. to cover just the village in stereo while our a.m. covers a mile plus or minus.

Or i could do away with the f.m. altogether since the ramsey fm25b is not fcc certified, i would stay totally legal using the sstran alone.

LoL anyways, once i get the transmitter built i will probably have some questions to post in the forums. I know we are in good hands here at Part 15, stay tuned!

Powerful station on 95.5 fm,

I couldnt have picked a better time to decide to go A.M., seems theres a station in Jamestown on 95.5 fm, we are on 95.7 fm.

I couldnt have picked a better time to decide to go A.M., seems theres a station in Jamestown on 95.5 fm, we are on 95.7 fm.
Every once in awhile i hear bleed over from 95.5 fm but the odd thing is, that station is LPFM and operates with 8 watts of power.

They must have one heck of a qth to be as loud as they are here in London, according to yahoo maps they are 104 miles away?!

Every time i have a chance i try to listen for a station i.d. but so far i have not been able to catch it. I am not able to hear them in the house as i live in a mobile home that seems to be riddled with rf noise from the cable/internet. So naturally i can only hear them at most times full quieting in my car on a digital car stereo.

My concern is this, should i worry about interfering with someones reception of this LPFM even though this station may be running much more power than they are licensed for? I would like to run the fm right up to the time that we are ready to sign-on with our A.m. that way listeners can make the change when we do.
I have already been playing promos for the switch to A.M. so if anyone is listening they wont wonder what happened to us.

Since working in radio, both public and commercial i have learned to respect the rules all broadcasters must follow to stay out of trouble and make radio enjoyable for everyone.

Any ideas? Suggestions?
