This is the TH II PCB. The case is all black. The PCB is marked: TH-III-M ver 1 2.

How does it compare to the TH-5 regarding info about jack locations and ribbon cables?

How does it compare to the TH-5 regarding info about jack locations and ribbon cables?

In the photo, top right is the volume control then power connector, microphone jack, AUX input jack, DIRECT input jack, MESSAGE selector switch, F connector. The KA22134 DUAL PRE/POWER AMP chip is to the left of the AUX input jack. The LM358 modulator driver is below and left of the KA22134. C301, input audio coupling cap to the LM358 is above and right of the LM358.

END FED DIPOLE from the fence…

Here is a view from the fence. At this point the coax is about 6 feet above ground.

Looking away from the fence you can see the ferrite choke and the center strain relief is just out of view.

Starting at the right side is the choke. Half way to the tower is a strain relief where the coax ends and the center conductor continues.

At the end the antenna hangs from a spring which hangs from the guy wire. There is a string attached. The string was used to pull the antenna up the guy wire and is tied off at the tower.

END FED DIPOLE NOT A FLUKE

Here is a 2nd CW contact to Rockford Illinois using 1.2 watts into the END FED DIPOLE.

The nice thing about being end fed is that it’s much easier to install. I hoisted the end of the antenna part way up my tower and attached the other end to the wood fence. It slopes about 35 degrees and between the tower and the guy wires there’s probably lots of interaction, not to mention the aluminum sided garage.

END FED DIPOLE TRIALS

Two-way CW contact using END FED DIPOLE sloper at 30 feet high. Power output of transmitter 1.2 watts at 14.06 mHz.

Granted I’m using 1.2 watts but I think this shows the antenna could put the “Big Talker” out there.

The coax is about 80 feet to the ferrite ring choke. Another 16.5 feet to where the sheild ends and the center conductor continues another 16.5 feet.

It just dawned on me. I’ve been sittin’ on a QRP rig that might make a great 13.560 mHz BIG TALKER!

It just dawned on me. I’ve been sittin’ on a QRP rig that might make a great 13.560 mHz BIG TALKER!

A while ago I purchased an MFJ 20 meter Cub transeiver which is designed to operate CW on the bottom of the 20 meter band; 14 mhz.

Probably not a problem to tune the VFO down a half mHz.

Then just a matter of modulating the final amp. Maybe some CW beacon transmissions first for some listening tests.

It normally outputs about 1.7 watts but has a drive adjustment which takes it down to zero so it can meet the power restriction.
