Attached is the original Exhibit 5 submission of the Talking House / iAM transmitter, with the same FCC ID as the OET form I sent you.

Note paragraph two, in bold. The ATU, when used, is the final RF output of the transmitter. This is from the submission binder that was accepted by the FCC in 1997. The coax length used in the test, which produced 90 mW at the output, was 8 meters.

There was an interest expressed for tube based carrier current transmitters. This is a simple CC transmitter from Popular Electronics circa 1973. Also available as a PDF FILE.

In the assembly/operation manual I just purchased there is a second schematic and wiring pictorial which addresses the shock hazard posed by the transformerless power supply.

The chassi never was connected directly to the AC line. Rather there are bypass caps connected between the AC line (floating ground) and the chassi. This would allow a minor shock sensation but very limited current between the chassi and ground if plugged in backward.

However, the ground side of the RCA audio input jacks ARE connected to the AC line (floating ground) even though they are isolated from the chassi. This is where the shock hazard exists. When the AC cord is plugged in backward, the audio ground connection is connected directly to the AC hot.

The modified wiring disconnects the audio jack grounds from the AC line (floating ground) and connects them directly to the chassi. The audio ground return to the circuit uses the bypass cap connected between the AC line (floating ground) and the chassi. This restricts the 60 Hz AC current at the audio jack ground to a safe value. You may still feel a buzz but not enough current to electrocute.

Not being satisfied to be an Appliance Operator, I found a book at the libray full of simple projects.

“Using Electronics” written by Harry Zarchy contained a one transistor AM transmitter. I’ve been searching for this book for sometime now to complement my Radio collection.

Some kind sole has made the complete book available online. Follow This Link to check it out. Circuit number 20 is the one that captivated me.

I’m sorry to report that I just discovered Lefty Gomez of KLNJ Radio has pulled the plug.

I’m sorry to report that I just discovered Lefty Gomez of KLNJ Radio has pulled the plug.

Lefty was previously an Air Personallity at an AM in California. When the station owner decided to change programming and generally degrade the quality of the operation, Lefty decided to go it on his own.

He started KLNJ-DB, an internet radio station. He had a show on the commercial station known as Lefty After Dark which had a good following and he continued that show on his KLNJ-DB. After running that for a while he decided to get into Part 15 AM. That’s when he contacted me for some information. You may have noticed some of his posts on Part15.us from which he found me.

We collaborated for a short time as he asked if I would like to carry his After Dark show on my station which I did.

His internet stream went down two weeks ago and when I inquired he reported that a utility pole had been hit taking out his DSL and phone service. I continued to run After Dark from my archives and after a week, I inquired as to how it was coming.

There was no reply. Today, a week later, I checked the KLNJ-DB website to find a notice the station was no more. He states he is pulling out of Radio altogether and moving on to other endeavors.

I wish him well and hope he finds what he’s looking for.

Well, one of the old Towers went down last evening. The PC running the NOAA WX Webcast didn’t recover after an unscheduled shutdown while testing the UPS.

So, I pulled another old box off the shelf and got the NOAA ‘cast going after an hour of putzing with the original box and deciding this would take some time.

I’m not sure if it’s a Motherboard or hard drive problem so, I’ll start with the drive.
