Radio Formats

The Part 15 rules do not address station content, which does open the door on creative possibilities.

Imagine coming from a ship at sea, a “radio ship” in constant motion, from the oceans of the world. This could be beautifully dramatized with sound effects. As the on-air host you would “navigate” by keeping your Atlas open so you could map the days route and estimate port arrivals later in the week.

Maybe you would be outside of the international 3-mile boundary and travel beyond the jurisdiction of Part 15?

Christmas fever.

Idle Time Reading

December 20, 2011 by Carl Blare

Has this particular link been posted?

http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/FieldNotices/

It lists very recent NOV (Notice of Violation) and NOUO (Notice of Unauthorized Operation).

The heart took a jump when I saw that “Centerpoint Radio” had an NOV…..
I thought, “Oh, no, RFB is in trouble!” But then I remembered that RFB has ZeroPoint Radio, which is a different name.

BIG IDEA

December 19, 2011 by Carl Blare

May I share with you a big idea that could generate cash for the “Part 15 Fund.” A moment ago I praised kc8gpd for the beautiful photo of his AMT-5000, and a few seconds after that I heard me talk about building my AMT-5000 on the “Winter Solstice Edition of Blare OnAir,” and it hit me all at once.

Until today kits have been common place for Part 15 low power projects, but what about full power radio? Maybe there are engineers who get bored purchasing ready made transmitters. What if we got together and made the world’s first “50,000 Watt AM Transmitter Kit”?

Huh? You with me on this?

Holiday Programs From KDX

December 18, 2011 by Carl Blare

This is Winter Solstice Week. The exact time of the Winter Solstice will be 5:30 U.T.C. on Thursday, December 22, 2011. At that time the earth makes a u-turn and begins the return toward the summer for the northern hemisphere.

The Winter Solstice is the longest night and shortest day of the year. Every day thereafter each day will have 1-minute more daylight. It is a major astronomical event, celebrated every year by KDX.

The following programs are available from KDX

– Blare OnAir – Winter Solstice 2011 – Parts 1 & 2
– The Low Power Hour No. 18 – Big Bash
– Blare OnAir – Winter Solstice 2009
– Blare OnAir – Winter Solstice 2008

iTunes Radio Listings

December 17, 2011 by Carl Blare

I just installed iTunes because I need it to download podcasts from a source that only uses iTunes, and I found a huge radio listing that must be thousands of streaming radio stations are receivable in iTunes. But I didn’t see any of our Part15 stations…. although I only looked in the talk section and there are many different categories. Is anyone hear streaming in iTunes radio?

I’ll try to figure out how to get listed there.

There are so many entertainment sources both online and off that part 15 radio stations have no chance at all of having any listeners. And you’ve got to count cell phone calls and dinners and shopping and everything else that takes people’s time. No one has time left over to listen to part 15 radio.
