Yesterday I was talking to my engineer friend about the possibility of doing carrier current in order to cover the town of Deltaville Virginia. Keep in mind that we're still trying the c-quam AM stereo project and trying to keep a high quality audio profile.
We talked about modifying the Sean Cuthbert transmitter so that the final could produce a signal between 5 and 30 watt adjustable which would be suitable for Carrier current transmission. We will be doing neutral injection as this will allow the signal to bypass the confines of the Transformer.
Deltaville Virginia has only one power company and one distribution node for the entire town which is only about 4 miles long and my station is right in the center of it.
The Deltaville Market is about one and a quarter miles in One Direction and Taylor's restaurant is about one and a quarter miles to two miles in the other direction. Keeping in mind that your signal can broadcast roughly 262 ft from the power line in all directions as it follows the power line this would be a very adequate signal as our power lines are above ground and follow the road on both sides of the road might I add. This is very close to the vehicle which would be traveling around Deltaville.
In order to do this we need to have a coupler built and my engineer says it is possible to use the standard AC outlet as we are only using the neutral for the injection. A ground rod would be pounded into the ground for the cold side of the connection making this a very long lasso type Loop.
The beautiful thing is that we're hoping to cover the town without covering any of the major radio markets in nearby cities thus eliminating any jealous broadcast entities.
We are trying to have a clean album Rock quality signal throughout the town so that anyone with the radio plugged in and is listening inside the home we'll have a very nice signal to listen to and the folks who are traveling would hear us with a very clean and constant signal as the power lines are pretty well constant with only a very few feet of distance where the line isn't in place and we hope that the houses nearby also will radiate the signal.
Any help with schematics for the coupler would be great. My engineer friend said that you would have to have a capacitor capable of handling load and that the tuner inside the John Cuthbert transmitter should be able to tune up to it but we want to make sure that no feedback or AC hum will inter the transmitter causing our audio to sound like crap. We want to have pristine quality audio and of course would that C qualm AM stereo signal. Are transmitter will be mounted outside and it will have the AC extension cord with a very low Pole just to keep it above ground a bit so it don't get wet and very close to the ground rod so that the signal has a more efficient circular connection within the loop.
Please post schematic diagrams and or places where we can get a reasonably priced coupler. This should be a coupler that could handle the standard AC outlet as this would be the easiest way to do it sense we don't want to start tearing apart electrical sockets in order to wire this thing up.
If this works out we hope to have a full quieting signal for the 2 mile stretch and without harmonics or Spurs or anything to piss off Neighbors to the point where they would turn us in for harmful interference and then cause us to be shut down.
Like I said since the power lines are above ground I see this as a target of opportunity and I really want to take advantage of it.

Okay I looked at the more links section on the homepage as I did not see the coupler. I seen the ATU 30 which was for a regular antenna but nothing for Carrier current coupling.
Can you direct me to the link or can you post the actual link? This way we could actually look at the schematic diagram and the manual and see what we could come up with.
If you check the schematic for the ATU-30 you will see connections for the power ground and fused connections for the power lines. These are for carrier current connections.

I did try one carrier current design but my GFI on the outside plug didn't like it. The signal was strong in the house however for the first 30 seconds before I had to reset the GFI. I'm thinking the way our building is wired it may not work too well. This was at less than 1 Watt going into neutral too.
We will have to explore rather or not this will ever work in my building. If so it may have to be wired into the electrical box and I don't think the landlord would like that so for now we are just antenna broadcasting at 15:219 secs until if and when we get another service allowing more power legally.
