Anyone experience "beating" between your station and another at night when the skywave kicks in and one or more stations are coming in along with yours, especially when you go a little way from your transmitter so the other station(s) are in the background?

Hi, Mark,

Yes, I have observed this.  If your frequency is adjusted to be within 10 Hz. of the channel carrier frequency this is supposed to be inaudible, however, it will manifest as a fading in and out of your signal.  Nothing you can do about this except keep you carrier frequency within 10 Hz. and hope the "fading" is not as annoying as an audible tone which results if your carrier frequency differs from the other station 's by more than 20 Hz. or so.

It is to be hoped that even with the fading effect your signal is strong enough that it is still heard when the signals mix at the weakest point.  Those experienced with short wave listening live with this when the fading is due to propagation changes which happen second to second.

Neil

It's not bad enough to be a constant tone but sounds like a singer with vibrato like an opera singer.
The Procaster has a fine frequency adjust plus or minus 10 hz but am waiting for a new frequency counter to actually see what I am doing. I know the crystal used has a tolerance of plus or minus 50 PPM which is how crystal tolerance is stated and can be converted to know how many Hz that is if you know the frequency of the crystal. Tried turning it one way and another and then driving till my sttion was with the other and it didn't change it much.
