I have 2 Windows 7 computers that stopped updating, one several months ago, and another that I haven't used in a few years (the update process sits on 0% complete forever).
I attempted to resolve the issue using a number of published solutions floating around but nothing worked - until I found WSUS Offline Update.
It's an open source program that analyzes your computer, goes to the Microsoft download site and retrieves the appropriate updates, saving them on your computer. You then apply them and voila - Windows computers start updating once again. The process takes a while, but once it's completed you shouldn't have any further problems, at least in the update process.
WSUS works on a number of Windows operating systems - I'll let anyone interested do the appropriate research to determine if it's right for their particular needs.
This is a very good find. SlimDrivers is another FREE program that checks your computers drivers for the Audio/Video cards, Hard disk Drive and chipset updates as well. It takes a little bit because its FREE and you have to do some manual clicking VS auto but who cares it works well and FREE.
My understanding is that M$ will soon no longer support Windows 7. That is a sad thing too.
After many visits with Troy TheLegacy both here at the forums and at ALPB meetings it has become clear that TROY KNOWS COMPUTERS!

So glad i made the switch to Linux when i did.
My Acer Aspire One was Windows 7 years ago, but just as the warranty on that machine was up Windows gave up too, so i put Ubuntu 13.04 LTS (Linux) on it.

Just recently re-installed Ubuntu Studio on that Acer, Ubuntu Studio is the Multimedia version which offers a whole suite of software to aid in createing audio and video media as well as animations. After the HP Pavilion had Windows 7 Home Premium installed a second time around for use as the automation computer and webserver, it took a dive again.
Yep you guessed it, i grabbed the Ubuntu live usb and re-installed Ubuntu 13.04 LTS then upgraded to Studio and i believe it is running at 14.04 LTS. I haven't tried the latest version and I am in no hurry until the all clear has been issued for a back door intrusion exploit that has popped up in the latest version.
I will not look back and i do not regret my decision to stick with open source software.
See i started out on old pc's like the Tandy's, IBM's and Apple 2e and most of those I had to learn to code my own programming. Linux is the same thing only more advanced.
