Ok - I don't know if this is a part15er or not, but its bloody brilliant.
How to make some cash on your station, keep it pro sounding, yet maintain control?

Thanks Mir, this link is a good example of "how to advertise" and the whole way it is put forward is very attractive, with just a small web footprint.

We have a member who is doing something similar, Geoff at the Valley 1700 AM. Here is the link to his blog

Because part 15 stations are free to air commercials or any paid content, it is a subject to keep in mind, even for the hobbyist.

KDX is operated non-commercially for several necessary reasons: many of our free programs contain the condition that they be used only non-commercially. That is a very big reason, but in my opinion it only applies during the time-span when that particular program is on the air. In my way of seeing it, the very next hour after the free program could be commercial and it wouldn't violate those terms.

A second reason for being non-commercial is zoning. I haven't really checked, but I think maybe this is a "residential" location. But even there the law has its interpretations. I think that if the home or house has no "business-like" activity or traffic, such as employees or customers coming and going, it can contain "professional" activities. Many people work at home and are paid for it, in private homes. So a little visit to the lawyer could open many doors.

Given my liberal point of view, I often consider offering paid airtime to the religions and churches. I frankly find their message to be very commercial and branded and do not feel whatsoever that it is a "public service".

In the same way I find infomercials interesting. You hear them during "off hours" on the licensed stations, when phone lines are open taking orders for mega pills and wonder supplements. These are paid programs and the flow of income might be good for boning up on financial math.

Sales is just a mini version of applying for work or asking for a date. You might be turned down, but there is always the next prospect.
