It has came to my attention that we could have a security risk when Carl did his FM tests so we could try and achieve what field strength it would take to get a quarter mile and was hoping the Canadian field strength at BETS level would do it. We wanted to see the difference between the BETS setting and the USA setting. Fear not we don't need to be illegal to get this done. We have members in the ALPB that are in Canada and New Zealand. The question I have is can you members from Canada or New Zealand please test your transmitter at your BETS level FIRST then flip the switch back to the USA level (Since your allowed more than USA level) and test that. We'd need someone to do this on youtube or a FTP server. If you do it on youtube you can have someone on the left channel repeat 1 Watt over and over and the right channel say World Wide so we don't have anyone reporting us for copyright infringement. Then connect your portable to a camera's input and record it wile your walking or driving so we can see when it fades to Mono and the difference. This way the little puppy dog trolls working for the FCC or that other site can't frame us as a Pirate as we all know those people are lurking and just waiting for any of us to f*ck up so they can do yet another article on how bad we all are and how they took down the almighty pirate in praise for part 15 AM. All their doing this for is to try and stunt the growth of the movement to improve part 15 FM and I'm NOT gonna have it. Sorry there is more than one way to skin a cat so you can run around like a mealy little mouse but just like the song said by Jethro Tull – The Mouse Police Never Sleeps. So lets fight harder than ever before. Else I'll recommend we ask for the 1 Watt into an inside antenna and really f*ck up these trolls plans because instead of the 500mW to 700mW that I wanted I'll just say 1 Watt like New Zealand. Plus I'm gonna hang a flag in my yard that says FM FM FM FM FM so there have fun with that. I'm not gonna give up just because some say I should and there are many ways to achieve the same results if one way is not going to work. When a window of opportunity closes a door opens. Just like it took me 7 yrs to fight against my local ISP in order to stop the throttling and techs who didn't know their job so too will I fight for 7 years if this is what it takes to improve micro FM broadcasting. Yes FM FM FM.

Yup and a lot of those "Anti-FM Trolls" operate AM stations that are possible rule breakers and violators. But, we all know that they would never cut their own throats now would they?

NO of course not! They are nothing but a bunch of simple minded trouble makers, who live their whole lives to make others measurable while they reap the harvest of their own politically incorrect stink and stench.

You can not teach senile old dogs new tricks, their education is limited to that of stubborn old mules put out in the glue factory pasture.

They manufacture nothing but dead end dreams and live in a bubble world, shielded against the advancement of new technology and ideas.

They are what I call "Zombies" and they scour the land like in those zombie movies, looking for brains.

They visit the merry old land of OZ, hoping the Wizard will have a set of brains in his little black bag to offer them. He has none for these poor old lost souls.

Sadly, they fall short and fail to acquire what they seek and are doomed forever.

Every movie has it's ending, and so will this movie about a corrupt group of old geezers, who nothing left in life to learn but negativity, ignorance and hate.

Bruce.

Let it be known that Mark from Canada has volunteered to first show us the BETS setting and how far he can get. Then he'll show us the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0 at USA level. Then he'll probably show us the high power setting of the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0 at high setting. We want to see if it and the Decade is the same power level when the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0 is set to high power. Now if it does not improve the range that much then I'll ask someone in New Zealand to try and find the fild strength for a 500mW FM transmitter and ask for the very same field strength of a 500 mW transmitter on a rubber duck or telescoping antenna. Now there was mention of people on Amazon and Youtube talking of putting their Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0 on High Power and the question was asked Why hasn't anyone gone after them. The answers are in front of you. 1. When you practice common sense with your transmitter not to cause interference THERE IS NONE on a CLEAN transmitter otherwise more complaints would have been made thus a NOUO. 2. Just because the LEGAL field strength is 250 uVm does not mean YOUR transmitter was set to the MAX LEGAL LIMIT. There is also the fudge factor this pro broadcaster engineer who has done part15 FM at first tells me about. So those 3 factors is the reason these folks have been happily broadcasting for Years. The trick and we'll find out with our friend in Canada how much further does this HIGH POWER setting really go and is it really close to 1,000 uVm. If not I'd say that the high power mode of the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0 is actually the full legal limit or closer to it. This may be something the trolls did NOT want all of you to know hence the threat against the ALPB when talks were made about testing. When the true answer comes and I have a feeling my theory is correct, we'll a better understanding on how far we can really push things without fear and we may get the increase in power based on factors right in front of everyone's face for years and finally for us FM folks the lies will be quashed. Now that AM is being threatened with more stations these trolls will beg us to let them in on our club. God does have a sense of humor and we'll get justice.

One thing I did notice when I was using the wholehouse 3 is that it caused undesirable interference to the whole band...especially above and below the transmit frequency in the form of a hiss and knocking off other stations when right near the antenna which the Decade's don't do. I also knew about holding the 2 buttons down for 3 seconds to see the lightning display for the higher power and when I did this there was a large power increase and the interference I mentioned was now noticable a little in the car outside the house. This doesn't happen with the Decade CM-10 and MS100. With a frequency counter(model GY-560) which has a bar graph signal strength indicator showed a big jump in power when set on high power. With regular part 15 setting at about 2 feet from the rubber duck antenna it comes with there was nothing showing on the screen but when I changed to high power the bar graph was at max on display and I could move it several feet back before it didn't register anymore.

As for whether the high power setting is BETS level I will see when I do test but I suspect that it may be more. I Remember when I had it on in high power after a while the transmitter became warm and when inquiring about that I was told that was normal for high power setting.

I'll post when I do the bets/part 15 comparison.

Decade transmitters are tested/measured individually at their facility in Quebec before every one is sent out so you know for sure they meet the bets or part 15 max(CM-10 included) but the wholehouse is certified with a sample but then they are mass produced and sold and it has to be assumed 10s of thousands of them all meet the same specs as the sample that was approved.

I do know an experimenter that used 500 mW into a rubber duck and the reception you reported was almost identical at 10 feet it would bleed a boombox but then further than 10 feet it was normal.  I think if we can prove the high power of the WHT 3.0 is 500mW we can certainly ask for the same field strength into a rubber duck since the sky has not fallen.  Now the anti FM trolls have got to be squirming.

The same interference at close range(near antenna) also was there at the normal part 15 setting...something about the way this transmitter works. Have been using the decade for quite some time now and I'm always checking the range every time I go out in the car just to make sure it's working ok and have also taken the portable and walked around the neighbourhood so I know how the BETS transmitter is exactly ...where I start to get the signal, and where it ends. But I can't remember how the Wholehouse compared so tomorrow evening or next week in evening when  everyone's not out watching me walking around with a radio I'll compare the two in the same transmit location in the house and report what I find.

The more I hear about the Whole House FM Transmitter 3.0's overheating issues on high power and now hearing of spurs and harmonics on low part 15 power? I don't mean to sound like a brag I'm not trying to do so but for $54.99 the SainSonic AX-05B at the -48dbm legel has none of these issues. And even when a person done an experiment and showed me the results on High Power it never heated up and never had bleed unless you were in a 10 foot range of it. By the time the person was outside they could tune to any station outside the fundamental transmit frequency and it was not interfering with any stations at all. Makes me wonder if high dollar really means better quality. I've read too where people complained about the cheapness of the plastic transmitter. For $125 id expect a harmonic FREE and spur FREE transmitter and certainly not overheating at the high power level and made of metal. What a Toy!!!
