Wasn't the 807 a cool old transmitting
tube that was shaped like a beer bottle?

Hence the old ham radio expression,

"Let's go out and get a couple of
cool 807s."

What part of the U.S. are you in?

If the signal is along the east coast,
I can pull out the big gear and listen
for it.

From what I can tell the station is in Illinois. I'm located north of Detroit. If it's a part 15 station. It will be the first I know of reported in a DX path. Not much info on this station but I caught it last night and made a few recordings.

My radio is right across the river from west central Illinois, and this morning I checked 1710, in case the mystery station is close by, but I heard the buzz-splatter from the 2nd harmonic of AM 850, 5kW, located 1-mile from here with IBOC racket side-bands.

Fortunately, the local station shuts down at sunset, when I will be back on 1710 for a listen.

It's back on now. Just starting to pick up bits and pieces. Another DXer in west MI is reporting him also.

if they are running on 1710 with enough power to be dx'ed that far away than they are most likely well above part 15 limits. kind of reminiscent of WFAT days with hank and jim.

they ran on 1620 back when 1620 was not a valid am frequency.

Here in Connecticut I have heard
a couple of pirates on 1710.

They are not strong, but one of
them is well known. I can't
remember the name, but it was
in Boston. I'll have to check
the frequency again.

Time to bring out the big gun
AM BCB DX equipment.

OH - And Robert - I bet you already
know this, but there used to be some
footage on YouTube of WFAT. I bet
it's still there. I'll have to check
on that, too.

For those who have never seen
the footage, Hank and Jim were
some guys who ran pirate stations
WFAT, WGUT, and WHOT some

There are still bits and pieces of
the famous duo on the air with
various pirate set-ups. There is
one hilarious YouTube video of them
singing along with a record on WHOT.
This came out of Brooklyn, NY, and is
fun to watch. I think they were on
1620.

I don't condone pirate radio, but just
looking at some of the footage is really
entertaining.

The reason I am a pirate is so I can play punk rock music with angry curse words in it.

Other than that, I know nothing about world politics, religion, economics, sociology, race relations, education, architecture, history, science, nature, oceanography, culture, bibliography, scientology, religion, animal husbandry, zoology, genealogy, biology, psychology, philosophy, masonry, carpentry, part fifteenery, or superstition.

Puck frank to the steroids!
