Carmine5, my comments about fear were not directed at you. In fact, your posts on this topic are very refreshing.
As for pirates, some people romanticize them, unfortunately. Movies such as Pirate Radio do not help. I suppose that some pirates really start off intending to make a pungent social statement, and make a special effort not to hurt anyone in the process (I am reminded of a few of the famous shortwave pirates, such s The Crystal Ship) but they are few and far between. In most cases, these guys want to do something, they either cannot or will not go through the normal process to do it, and just blithely go ahead and do it anyway (not caring who they affect, including interference to licensed stations and listeners). And for the most part, they do it for the most mundane of reasons - money.
Pirates give those attempting to broadcast legally without a license a bad name - their law breaking rubs off on us. Some complain that the FCC and licensed stations automatically think that a Part 15 station must be breaking the law, but then turn around and defend pirates for breaking that law, automatically casting doubt on what they are doing in the process. I know that I would be suspicious.
This thread has probably gone on far too long. Just report the pirates to the FCC and be done with it.
It is interesting to hear about pirate activity but this thread is becoming repetitive.
