Carl, you just do what you have to do.

I am certainly not lobbying to become one of the inner circle.  There should not be an inner circle.  Just a group of people actually working on the petition, and aided by the comments of others.

Just a quick response from me here.

At the teamspeak ALPB meeting on Saturday February 27, to which everyone was invited to attend and could have voiced your opinions this is what took place.

When we spoke about a hidden forum board, I was under the understanding the forum would be hidden unless an admin gave you permission to view it.

That is how HB does it.

Those who were at the meeting, knew this was talked about.

The problem is part15.us does not have a dedicated forum related to SW/LW. It also does not have a separate forum just for the intitive. Thus, the inititive was scattered among several different threads making it difficult to follow it.

Bob MARM1700 agreed to create a forum for the inititive at the ALPB, but stated he did not know at that point how the permissions of the ALPB site forum board worked.

Now, I do not know how things went after the meeting. But it was decided by someone and I am not going to post accusations here (because I really don't know) to put a password on the forum board after it was created.

Perhaps that was part of the request, to require a password, or perhaps that is the only way to add permissions to the site. I am not the admin so I can not answer this question.

I personally feel it should have some type of restrictions at this point in the game, not to avoid criticism but to avoid counter productive matters from the general public.

Once things pass the rough draft stage, it can be moved to the open forum where anyone can see it regardless of their log-in status.

Now Carl you were present at the meeting and as far as I know, you agreed to the creation of the forum. Again, I have no clue why it requires a password. That can be discussed at the next meeting, but it is up to EVERYONE to log into the teamspeak server and voice your concerns.

Bruce.

Now that was nice.  I think that violates the TOS for this site.  That's why I got booted from Hobby Broadcaster.

John you totally lost me here, is speaking the truth against the TOS?

I simply said that the adimn can control who sees what on a forum board, by setting permissions on a given member's account. Guests have very limited access to what is viewable.

Here at part15.us, I can view the whole board while logged out and viewing as a guest.

Bruce.

MrBruce Said:

Okay thanks, I thought since I mentioned HB he was referring to me.

WDCX I seen your post and understand you were not talking about me. All is good.

I really, really, hope all this mess and misunderstanding prompts more of you to log in at the next team speak meeting and get your voice heard.

I am hoping to see more than 6 people logged in and ready to voice your opinions and concerns, I may not seem like I am listening, I really am and spend many hours of my personal time reading articles and documents on the web related to LW/SW/AM and FM.

I am more open minded than I appear on this board.

Rich has posted some technical information in this topic, which I am currently reseaching.

I would like to see more of that, plus on line documents instead of being told it isn't going to work.

Granted, we have to provide the information for you to dispute or agree with, but I would also like someone to hand me some information that convinces me why it won't work.

Before I throw in the towel, I want proof that backs up someone's statement that it won't work. Then I will look at it from a different angle and see if a slight change makes it look more promissing.

Bruce.

This is inappropriate even when not considered in terms of TOS. Normally, such comments would be deleted but enough people have seen it that doing so would not undo the damage. Sometimes inappropriate posts are allowed to remain as an example and that is the case here.

The most damaging aspect of this post is what it does to the FM initiative. The initiative group has been provided with resources here and at the ALPB site with the good faith that doing so would help the effort and this is being squandered. I suggest that the initiative group stop posting for now, carefully read the advice already posted in this thread about project management, and develop a better strategy to proceed.

It hurts to see what Jeff Station8 posted. That really shoots the initiative in its own foot.

And MrBruce, in your Post # 50 you don't understand why there's a password for the Secret Site? Don't you remember you were among those who pleaded for a private site to avoid "enemies"? How could it operate without a password?

And MrBruce said: "At the teamspeak ALPB meeting on Saturday February 27, to which everyone was invited to attend and could have voiced your opinions this is what took place."

Correction: That was NOT an ALPB meeting. It was only an initiative meeting.

Infighting has ruined lunch.

When I first came up with this idea a while back, I had a vision of towns/communities running their own stations. The signal wouldn't go more than the boundaries of the town. Of course, not all towns have boundaries that make for a good 'center point', but the point of the idea was community radio. There is no community radio at the moment, Part 15 or otherwise. LPFM doesn't count because communities can't come up with the idea of running an LPFM station on a whim since the application window is closed and may never open again.

So, could community radio work? I believe it can, especially in college towns and it can also help as something high school students can run. I could list a ton of reasons why community radio is a good idea, but that's not the point of this.

The reason I found this whole Part 15 community is because it was the closest to any kind of small-area radio. However, there's a massive gap between Part 15 and even LPFM, let alone the game between Part 15 and commercial radio. So how do communities have their own stations? Righ now, they can't.

There's talk about expanding Part 15 but is that the right thing to do? Part 15 is also for devices and instead, maybe it's a better idea to push for a licensed very low power community radio service.

I suggested a few months back that maybe we should talk to the FCC about a trial run for 6-12 months. Work out the numbers for the power and see how well it works. Should that be the first step?

I had an idea like that the other day. Kind of like the TIS service that highways use.
