I am considering contacting C Crane CO for sponsorship of the ALPB Stations.
I had them on KNRY with my old show and I think it would be cool to get C Crane to join us.
The Question for you guys , would you be willing to run the adds on your stations ?
If so , I think we could split the pay in equal parts for each member station.
Let me know what you think and how you would go about this kind of thing.
I like your idea, Lefty, and am reviewing my station's policy as it now stands to see if we can run commercials.
This is our policy re-printed from the ABOUT page at kdxradio.com...
"KDX is a non-commercial internet radio station. That means we receive no remuneration for programs or announcements heard on KDX. Some commercials may be heard as part of particular programs, in which case the program's producer recovers production costs through commercial sales and KDX allows airing of the commercials as a condition of receiving said program at no charge. Also, oldtime radio programs contain commercials of the time, which are presented for archival interest. KDX reserves the right to modify its commercial policy within
limits imposed by agreements with program sources;"
The last sentence is the loophole built in just for a situation like lefty proposes.
The way I see it, KDX can air commercials, the remaining questions are whether we can be reimbursed and which programs are not subject to non-commercial limits.
What would be the length of the commercial and how often would it be run on each station?
Just a thought, but instead of airing commercials on member radio stations, why don't you first contact them about sponsoring the ALPB in and of itself (and probably indicate that on the web site). There are expenses associated with the ALPB even now, including web hosting, DNS services, IP addresses, FTP sites, etc. I think that it would be a win just to get them involved, period.
Of course, once you start taking in money, you have to then start considering the overall financial and legal status of the organization - i.e., non profit, whatever.
And, that's not to exclude running commercials on member stations at some point, if they see the benefit of doing so.
C. Crane is significant to part 15 radio first and foremost for their radios, and much less important for that FM transmitter toy of theirs.
Atisan's proposal makes sense to me.
I think a C.Crane Ad on thealpb.com would make great sense, because it world promote good radios to the part 15 community.
ALSO, as nice bait to attract C.Crane, thealpb.com could produce and post C.Crane Radio Commercials for free use by part 15 radio stations.
I would be proud to run C.Crane Spots sort of like PSA's, to encourage the audience to get better radios, even though I have no audience and already have my C.Crane radio.
But overall, this is a great idea to pursue.
In my mind there is certainly nothing wrong with a Part 15 operator choosing to run commercials for compensation but my choice would be not to do so.
For me, Part 15 broadcasting is a hobby and I seek no monetary gain from it.
These comments are not to speak for others nor to deny them this choice but "do necessarily reflect the views of the staff and management of radio8z".
Go for it if you want.

Trying to use formalized descriptions for an informal activity is kind of clumsy and inaccurate, in my view.
Hobby, not hobby, that kind of categorization comes from our tax culture which determines how much of our property will be picked from out pockets.
KDX Worldround Radio is noncommercial not because of being a hobby, even though it is a hobby, but because many of our programs are made available exclusively for non-commercial educational stations, and at the very least I must keep any commercial content from touching up against the noncommercial programs.
It would seem to me that time blocks not occupied by the noncommercial programs could indeed contain commercials, but additional administrative responsibility comes with the scheduling and bookkeeping that accompany commercials.
Informality quickly becomes formalized when more record keeping is necessary.
Thats a great idea Lefty, but wouldnt work for me, but great for the people up the top
..run ads, that is.
I have just gotten my 1610 signal back on the air. While the range now is nothing I would consider viable, at one point I had a signal going out a couple of miles.
In 2004 I had a few paid flights, including a half paid/half trade from Clear Channel, of all companies. I averaged $300 per month back then.
Now, with the loss of my day job due to local radio downsizing, I have to earn something, or just forget about doing it. With the stream going and ads in the stream, I am ending the year at just over break even.
I am playing a hybrid country, soft AC and oldies format. A local listener heard the stream and personally brought by a check today to help me keep going.
Happy New Year to all!
Here is the direct link to the stream, which is simulcast on 1610:
