When I heard Lester Roadhog
Moran saying that, I thought
it was one of the funniest
parts of the recording.
I once was really into politics,
but I got out of it to help
my marriage.
And in this case (just this one
isolated case out of many)...
It did.
Still, the people who are talking
about it have to keep doing so. I
very much agree with that.
i just have to turn my life to other
things, at least for now.
Very Best Wishes,

"Hearing Doggradio's frank feelings about political talk reminds me how complicated civil liberties can be.
On the one hand, one of the reasons some people start talking about politics is because they see liberty being taken away."
Many things have been taken away. Radio as it used to be for example.
The threads of the politic cloth are delicately woven.
RFB
I know a language zealot who turns red and goes into a near rage when word play doesn't match her absolute standards of correct English.
"Compoliticxity", the great new word invented by RFB, would make her launch into a tirade of disapproval.
But anyone who takes a creative language course in school or simply has a talent for word play knows that fun with words is also a freedom.
Words are tools. Tools get a job done. The job is communication.
"Compoliticxity" is a good one!
You guys are correct!
That's the bottom line.
And I greatly respect what you
are doing and IT HAS TO BE DONE.
I just feel bad that I am sort of limited
in what I can do right now.
Just keep doing what you're doing.
I will be watching from a distance with
great approval.
Very Best Wishes,
Bruce, DRS2
Your approval means a lot to us who want so much to save the future with our part 15 stations.
I put a slogan somewhere on my station's website -
"KDX is not Paul Revere come to save the world.
But KDX wants to hear what Paul Revere has to say."
Well, that's why I feel bad
because I sent the wrong message
without meaning to.
I approve and support what you're
doing. The word needs to put
out there.
It's because of my own limitations
that I have to send a big wave of
approval from across the street or
standing on top of a building a couple
of blocks away or from a balloon up
about 500 feet with plenty of chocolate
to eat.
I feel better now.

This is working out perfectly. I came up with a brainy idea for generating income with Part 15 radio, and I did a search for "Politics" so I wouldn't have to open a new thread, and this one is perfect. Here goes.
When big election time lays ahead, remember that politicians will be spending a bundle on political advertising, and radio/tv stations go nuts trying to find enough airtime so they can cram them all in.
PLACE A PHONE CALL to campaign headquarters, introduce yourself as a radio station in the area and ask them to make sure you are on their media list!
PLACE ANOTHER CALL to a sales guy at a licensed station and say that you are from a campaign office and ask for their rate sheet.
GET READY for all the spot placements that will be coming in and print up some slick Invoices you can send for their ad placements, be sure to charge the same rates as the so-called "big" stations. Politicians talk a lot of bluff but they don't know much and they won't have a clue that you're a toy station.
AFTER ALL, politicians use white lies to fake their way through life, let them have a dose of their own medicine. Just be sure not to say anything about 100 milliWatts or 10-foot antennas.
GET READY TO ACT RICH by wearing cheap suits, your wife will know how to tie your tie when you go out on business.
THANK ME for the idea that made your hard work pay off.
FURTHERMORE, some, if not all, political campaigns utilize advertising agencies to do their ad placement. This is tuff because advertising agencies usually have a bit of a clue about which radio station is which.
You might have several strategies for getting through to ad agencies.
While holding a friendly conversations with campaign headquarters and then with ad reps, mention that when you ran for political office you placed a lot of ads on (name your station here) and you got MORE RESULTS FROM THAT PLACEMENT than from the other stations.
If they ask, "Oh, what office did you run for?" make something up like "I was Interim Governer of Alaska when Sarah Palin quit, then I would have won re-election but I was starting a radio station at the time. They won't check it out.
The increase in distance in relation to an increase in transmitter power is a logarithmic scale. Not the way you were figuring it.
Say you have a transmitter with a range of 1/2 mile and the power is 100mW(FM or AM). If you increase power to 500mW you won't go 5x the distance...you might get a mile and a half, with same antenna. As the transmitter power goes up more and more the added distance will increase less and less but it will still keep increasing.

I'm thinking it's because the circle keeps getting wider, which spreads the RF gain over a larger area.
"Will the circle be unbroken.."
Dade City wonders, "Will the circle be unbroken."
It depends on the format.
