Thanks RFB,
I haven't looked inside yet to see what you''ve described, but I think I can follow your directions. I'll just need to find someone to solder for me.
Thanks for all your help. I was talking to our "announcer" the other night, and he was giddy that we're using this method to cover the parade route. He said "we've been trying for 30 years to figure out how to solve that problem".
Well, they may have "hoped" for 30 years that someone would come up with a (cheap) solution and now, thanks to you guys, a solution has been found. So, if you're coming this way around the 4th, we'll see to it you're fed and felt up on the dance floor.
We don't have fires here either. Our mountains burned up last year.
Thanks again, Joe
I really don't know what y'all are talking about ... I use a 1/8" standard ratshack stereo connector on both my TH5's with no troubles. Actually, I did put a clip-on choke on one of them.
The main one goes from my STL computer, an older eMac running Leopard, to the onboard TH5. Be sure you are using the line-in jack, not the mic jack, and also that the switch is set to line, not mic.
The other was connected to the little Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Starter (never needed anything more). I was getting a little hum from somewhere, so I slapped on a clip-on RF choke which fixed it.
Except for the choke these are exactly the same 1/8" standard stereo cables.
Both work perfectly.
BTW, I'm getting something more than 85% modulation on my main unit, don't know about the other but it seems about the same, no modifications on either. They sound fine on air. Somewhere I posted a URL for an audio clip recorded inside an Astro van taxi with a Tascam DP800. I'm at another computer ... lemme see ... OK try this:
http://fhtinyradio.com/Library/AudioLib/FHTRTaxiAstrovan082211.mp3
Please keep in mind how many gens it is:
CD->iTunes AIFF file->96kbps MPEG internet broadcast stream-> receiving STL computer (iTunes)->TH transmitter->van AM radio speakers almost 3/4 mi. from transmitter->Tascam DP-008 recorder->WAV file->MP3 file on the internet->your computer and speakers.
Mentioned on other threads, I think the only explanation is that Talking House tx', even the same models, are not all equal ... probably due to parts tolerance variables from different batches (just guessing).
