That's what I meant, MRAM.
And Carl, I don't disagree with you, particularly since Radio Systems got the ATU certified. But it all boils down to what an FCC inspector thinks if you're not using a certified system, and an SSTran with an ATU would definitely not be certified - although it could be considered legal, if the same logic is applied.
Lefty, that's why the ProCaster and Rangemaster (and the Grain Systems transmitter pointed out by Carl) are configured to be installed outside, fed audio and power by CAT5 or similar cable.
I find it interesting that the Talking Sign, a competitor in its day to the Talking House, also had an ATU which worked similarly. However, they had to pull the device and stop selling it, as they could not get it certified in Canada (not sure if they even tried in the U.S.).
I'm just pointing out the issues. The range Lefty is getting with a Talking House and ATU is very good and it's a certified system, particularly without ground wires. Like I said, the only way I know of to increase that range is to go with a Rangemaster and a 222 - and even then, local environmental factors might even limit the range of that device. You'd just have to try it - not condusive to those who are financially challenged.
Let me know if this is reasonable, but I think the portion of the TH/ATU issue that became sensitive revolves around certification issues. That's the can of worms.
But I think any further discussion of the technical aspects of TH/ATU are not in that can, and are free for continued reference.
That the TH/ATU is certified is a matter of fact.
If I am misguided in this opinion I will tone it down and go with policy.
My Talking House Transmitter and ATU are now sounding great !
I had to work on the ground issue that came alive when I took my grounds off of the antenna . Thanks MRAM the Ground Loop isolator worked perfect.
The CBS compressor is a bit hot for this transmitter though.
So I am not using any type of Compressor other than what is on my mixer.
The EQ on the Mixer is working great and this radio station sounds better than most of the FM Gang out there.
Now about that Distance thing.
Well it seems I have the worlds most directional , omni directional antenna in history.
It goes over a mile to the east and west.
But north and south it's less than one quarter mile.
Kind of strange LOL.
Never the less over all I think it is working great.
I am still going to get a 5000 as I really want to see how much better they are.
Besides I want to support SS Trans as they support us.
Do you have any cell phone, powerline towers or other metal structures close by?
If these are the right height and distance away from your antenna they can interact and alter the pattern of your system.
The structures act as parasitic elements of an array.
AM station Engineers take notice of new construction around their antenna location for this reason.
I think you said, Lefty, that your CBS unit was too hot for the transmitter audio input?
I assume it is a CBS Volumax or some other type of audio processor, and I am going to guess that like other professional gear the output can be set for different level standards.
In the professional audio world their are two common standards, 0dB out and +4dB out.
Trouble is that consumer equipment, and that might include the transmitter, have -10dB input and output levels, so that either of the professional levels would over-drive that kind of input.
If the CBS cannot be set to output -10dB, you can build a resistor 10dB pad to bring the level to the right spot.
I got the CBS compressor working with your Resistor idea .
And guess what , it made my signal go much further.
Now with no grounds my signal is working really great .
Tonight's test my signal went over two miles.
Now it's time to get my Internet stream going and get my automation going.
Next week I am going to purchase a SS 5000 for testing.
Anyway My Station should be 100% in about a week.
Lefty, as you prepare to launch, if you have the time I'd like to have a Team Speak conversation with you for The Low Power Hour.
Carl I would love to be on your"re show !
Just let me when we can work it out.
Things are going well for KLNJ AM 1610
The Signal is getting out very well.
Again thanks to Carl for the idea on how to get my Compressor working with the talking house.
Now it's internet time and BMI Dues payment time.
Then our stream will be 24/7 for you all.
I am going to add a second transmitter on the east side of town very soon.
My plan is to use a SS Trans 5000 and a CB Whip for transmitter #2.
Then I will add a third Transmitter on the west side of Santa Cruz .
Once those three transmitters are going 100 % I plan to add a Transmitter for Scotts Valley and then to Aptos Ca for near 100% coverage of North Santa Cruz County.
My Plan is to take this Part15 Station to a level that will make the big guys in the area wonder how we can do it.
Carl I will be looking forward to chatting with you.
The Schedule is coming together now.

take a look and see what you think, so far.
Your weekdays are looking very attractive, Lefty....
Programs to be checked out when they come on the air.
Very nice coming together project.
