The FCC fined a man named John Hays $15,000 for operating a Citizens Band radio without a license. Wait a minute. You don’t need a license for a CB radio.
this is highly unusual. the fcc as a general rule does not go after individuals running excessive power on CB. he was either making an extreme nuisance of himself or this is just one of those rare enforcement actions that is rarely done just to make it look like they still care about CB and are doing something. we have a field office right here in town and people here live right under the fcc field office running excessive power on CB. most of the mobiles here are running multi kW linears with the huge double coil penetrator mobile antennas. fcc knows they are there but they just don't seem to care.
Some CB Linears cause interference and others don't cause quite as much. The main thing is a CBer running so much power that they come in on the output amplifier of PA systems like they did at my aunt's church in Morgantown, WV. It was really bad at times. The minister also was into CB and he knew some of the guys doing it. He did ask them to not use their Radio's so close to the church while services were going on. He too reported the ones who disrespected him and done so anyway. These are the ones who need to have their Radio's taken away and maybe thrown in the pen for a while. There are clean Linears however no one needs to be running 5,000 watts on CB. Hell many hams don't even run that sort of power on 10 meters.
Especially since we aren't allowed to run that kind of power.
