Anybody got any quick-start advice? I just got an excellent deal on a used one in excellent condition, and I've been playing with it this afternoon. The box does a lot, but it's not intuitively designed. Are there any links you can point me to? Many thanks!
first go on ebay, buy the v1.3a firmware prom for about 15.00 free shipping if you don't have it already.
then pop in a cd or uncompressed wave file that fits the music format you have.
then just use the virtuoso function setting and let it autoprogram the setting for you.
thats all i did sounds great.
Mr. Bruce has been having all sorts of issues with his and I'll have to get him to read this link. He was trying to use it for his Internet Radio and maybe for AM someday.
Hello, just seen this thread.
I have the Behringer Ultra-Dyne Pro DSP9024 unit with the latest firmware.
My box does not have that AES/EBU board installed, it's a rarity on Ebay when it does show up.
Most of my issues with properly setting up audio processing equipment is mostly related to my hearing loss. My hearing loss is mostly related to nerve damage. I hear most sounds in a very distorted state, so it's very difficult for me to tell when the mids and highs are set properly.
I forgot to look at whether you're using it for AM or FM, because that makes a big difference as to how you set it up. AM needs a cut off frequency in the upper audio spectrum, where FM can use that upper spectrum.
Since you have a six band compressor/limiter, you can control each band independently of the others, to prevent the BASS from pumping, the mids from over driving, or the highs from interfering with the stereo pilot carrier of FM.
The unit comes with 16 factory presets, you can try those to see if they make your music sound better, you can also make up your own and save those in the unused channels.
The tricky part is when loading a preset you have to chose it twice for it to actually execute or save it to a choosen channel.
You can tell what version of firmware your DSP9024 has when you start the unit up, just observe the screen with the ear and that is your version number. If you have the latest which is version 1.03 you are all set, you have the latest version.
I do have some presets I saved from other users who posted them on the web if you'd like me to share those as they are currently no longer available on the web.
I have the Behringer Ultramizer Pro DSP1424P unit that I am still trying to learn how to set up. I tried the dsp9024 into the dsp1424P, but found the BASS was pumping everything beyond words, so I'm trying the DSP1424P into the DSP9024 and turned a lot of the settings down until I learn what effect each adjustment has on the audio.
What makes both pieces of equipment difficult to program is the fact that there are so many options, some buttons have more then one option to chose from depending on how many times it is pressed.
Besides the DSP9024 having 6 bands, there is also the section that controls both the input and outputs as well.
There is a feature called VIRTUOSO. It is found when the METER button is pressed and BUTTON B is pressed to show SINGLE.
Each of those A B C D buttons have an option next tothem on the screen, such as TIGHT, or MEDIUM etc. you can try one of those when the loudest parts of your music is playing, allow it to analyze your music for about 30 seconds. Then press the button next to OKAY and your processor willl adjust everything to that setting.
The thing you need to learn is what each button on the DSP9024 face plate does. The A B C D buttons corresponds to whats on the LCD screen to the right. The buttons on the far right are curserer keys that move the curserer around the screen mostly in the SETUP mode, This is when the SETUP botton has been pressed.
The DSP9024 mostly likes to run in DIGIMAX mode, as opposed to +4 dBu or -10 dBv operating level. Each time you power off the DSP9024, it will reset back to DIGIMAX even if you set it to +4 dBu or -10 dBv, so keep that in mind if you power off the unit and prefer the operating range at Professional +4 dBu or Home level at -10 dBv.
Make sure you have a copy of the owner's manual. It is available on the Behringer website if you do not have a copy of it.
If you have any questions let me know.
Bruce.
Bruce,
Many thanks for your very comprehensive tutorial! I've had a chance to noodle with the unit for a few hours, and it's now a lot clearer to me what it does.
As kc8gpd said, the Virtuoso function is a good place to start to see what the unit wants to sound like. It's a nice sounding little box for the price!
It seems that the unit likes to have some leveling in front of it (I used a Compellor 320A). The sound seems less clipped and just as loud that way. But it can run on its own without the Compellor and still sound very respectable.
I'll play around with it some more, and will share any earth-shattering observations that might present themselves.
Thanks again!
No problem.
I am a lot more familiar with the DSP9024 now, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask and share your own settings and adjustments with us as you learn more about yours.
Bruce.
