IDK I suppose I should have given his site credit for the watch however if you want to get all technical you'd have to give Youtube credit for the Video and then give the poster on Youtube who posted the video demo of the TX. Now if I was to talk about the AM Transmitter challenge I'd have to mention Hobby Broadcacter for they were the ones who done the transmitter challenge for iAM, SStran, Rangemaster. But still if we do our own tests based on their findings to see if its different that too can be a sticky situation. Do they give Timeinbovey any credit for his tests on the FM transmitters being overpowered and the readings? You don't hear about that over there. I'm not going into the my club can out do your club high school and kids playground stuff here. You can't always make everyone happy and some will bitch no matter what you do. Its Radio Transmitter talk. Talk is cheap and to the best of my knowledge is not copyright. Now if Hobby Broadcaster builds a transmitter and I were to give out the schematic then that would be a serious crime or if teh president were to give me the schematic of the Talking House or iAM Transmitter and I gave that out without permission that is a thief and can land you in serious trouble even more than a NOUO from the FCC. Take a look at some issues in copyright. Again this is part 15 talk here and I'm going to enjoy the hobby and not worry if some people don't like me for whatever. Its supposed to be about helping other part 15 operators and having a good old time. That is it not trying to say that any one website is better. If they want to play that game and hey if I'm not invited into their club I'll just make the best of it here. I laugh at the behavior just because some of us are PRO FM. I still love part 15 FM but I don't have $200 for a clean FM TX I feel won't cause any harmonics or spurs. If I had it my way and could afford it my FM Transmitter would have been a $400-$2,000 part 73 transmitter turned down to about 500 mW or less and fed into a rubber duck antenna the same as the SainSonic. That way at least I would have had the super clean transmitter I know would never cause interference. But for now I'll use AM for a little longer unless I can't get it to go at least 1/4 to 1 mile. I'm getting closer to that goal. Its clean too does not bleed the whole dial even right next to the TX.
TheLegacy don't sweat it...the only real thief here on this information highway is the one who accused you of being one..case closed.
Now let US be the adults here and let the children play in that isolated playground sandbox over there.
Bruce.
theLegacy, you didn't have to give that other site credit for the watch link. He himself is surfing the internet to post links to other people's material all the time. In fact, it seems that a lot of the posts over there originate from that activity.
Now, when they do post original material, then it would be kosher to credit that site if you make reference to the material.
I think that it's rediculous that they attempt to hide stuff behind a wall of silence. But in doing that they're only hurting themselves. As theLegacy says, there's no copyright on knowledge (as much as they appear to want there to be one), and Part15.us is really the only dedicated Part 15 website that openly disseminates all of that knowledge.
Carl Blare wrote: THIS JUST IN: I took a quick look just in time to say the man of two faces, Carmine5, post this: "One of the saving graces of the HB site is the absence of R. Fry."
Along the theme of a post made by Radio8z, it's nice that they're reading our posts. But I also note that comments such as that are not made over here, where the individual being referred to resides.
That would take some intestinal fortitude, and a willingness to defend what one is saying, neither of which is obviously present.
Instead of lurking, Carl, why not sign on and contribute over at the "other" site. At least I comment here.
Look, I like the idea of your petition and restrict my comments to that in an effort to help and some of your experimentation is interesting to read.
But Bill has pegged R.Fry, and I believe rightly so, as anti-Part 15 and dangerous to Part 15 broadcasting as defined and practiced here and at HB. I'm glad he's not allowed over there.
What I find a turn off on this site, Part 15.us, is the paranoia about the "other" site and the anger and cantankerousness of some of its members here. It's totally unnecessary. We're not solving the world's problems here. We're all doing the same thing, Part 15 broadcasting.
Because of the restrictive field strength limits, Bill is not that much in favor of Part 15 FM and I agree with him. Whereas with 15.219 it's wide open. Experiment and extend the range as much as you legally can.
In the end, it's just Part 15 broadcasting after all.
That is a big Downside to part 15 FM Carmine5 all you can do is take the transmitter out of the box attatch the antenna (That comes with it) to the connector of the FM transmitter plug it in (or put batteries in it) and connect it to your audio source and fire it away. If you get out only to the door opening of your house that is all you get period. You can try and put the transmitter on the second floor but as some of us found out it really does not extend your range that much. And if your transmitter is getting out ¼ mile its a gray area. Then there was the suggestion by Timinbovey which sort of makes sense for part 15 FM about why 95% of these FM transmitter operators never got NOUO's even though they are grossly over the limit in ranges from 4KuV/m @ 3 meters and that was because they were not running a Radio station every day thus not broadcasting every day. So if you want to do FM your transitions should be here Today gone for days. What fun would that be and to promote an Internet station using FM would be moot at best. I'm running into issues with AM in some sense because it takes a great deal to get a decent antenna made for these low power transmitters. The loading coils were meant for their antenna systems they sell with it. So building a better antenna requires get the right impedance and everything at least so the transmitter thinks it is sending a signal into the antenna/ATU they sell. But unlike FM you (or a friend who knows about antenna systems) can build a better antenna. Changing to copper makes a difference for an example. I can sort of see why Bill was not big on FM maybe he's tried it. Maybe he's dealt with people who didn't care if they are spewing all sorts of spurs and crap all over the band and without regard. This could really turn a person against any idea of FM broadcasting for Hobby Radio operators. Some of the crap transmitters sold out there are problematic. And the notion that Hey my FM transmitter is certified I'm running a clean transmitter was debunked by Carl when he used a spectrum analyzer on his Whole House FM transmitter 2.0 and it made me wonder about the 3.0. My experience with the SainSonic AX-05B had great range but at the cost of anyone 10 feet away would be effected by the bleed and what seemed like some possible spurs in the lower band though the TV was 3 feet from the transmitter and no one else in the house was effected. I had to think of the Radio's of the house in front of my transmitter that was not very far from me and as to rather it could cause bleed or not. There was some thin spots on my front porch I could hear hash from my FM TX. That was 20-30 feet away. I was mindful of this too and though a car Radio didn't seem effected by this I still had to think of other people around me and respect their space as well. My AM TX is clean. Doesn't cause any interference to my Radio's inches away from the TX. One Radio had slight bleed (Nothing like washing the whole dial like the SainSonic did 10 feet away). Its a hard pill to swallow. Yes I won't lie I miss the high quality audio FM gave my station. Now I have a big problem. Even when I get my range how do I convince Audiophiles (Album Rockers again are the most picky listeners on the planet) to listen on AM to hear my station. Once I get a better AM Radio I can see what this transmitter is really made of. At least in a car I may have a chance while listeners park to eat or hang out at the Waterfront in their cars listening to my station. I'm close to a school so parents can listen to my station while they wait for their kids. I did have one lady who saw me testing my Transmitter and she wants to try and receive it. So maybe going for walks with my Radio once in a while will attract attention. I'm thinking of making a sign too.
Take it from a guy who has been inspecte, and has had equipment siezed...
The last thing the FCC will do is issue a NOUO. If you comply with them when they show up they'll leave you alone.
Of course naturally that means the end of the station.
For what its worth, I agree with Carmine. The paranoia here is a huge turn off. Freaking everyone out and taking all these rediculous safety measures is extremely detrimental to Part 15 radio.
Also, it wasn't long ago the entire part 15 community didn't like Fry. I'm not sure when that changed, he wasn't liked here either. I've personally never had a problem with him, but thats how it was.
This site used to be a wonderful place for experimentation and ideas. So many great ideas have come from here, now its totally different. I'm not sure what happened, but this is not the same site I left 2 years ago.
Also what do you think goes on in the members only section? Do you all seriously believe all they do over there is talk smack and conspire against all of you? C'mon now. Register and see for yourselves.
I encourage all who have the time to post at every part 15 site as well as join the ALPB at
And I would expect the occasional anti-part 15 person to show up, after all, where else would they go?
Thats awesome the ALPB has its own site now! I remember its humble beginings as an offshoot from the Longwave experiments.
I've really thought about joining them over their just to see what they would do when I ask questions about the Talking House or iAM transmitter. I'd really like to see their AM Transmitter challenges and reviews on transmitters. As long as my name and address is not published when Bill gets pissed or thinks I was a Radio Pirate because I ran (and may still run at times I have not decided) an FM Transmitter. Transmitter. Also hope I didn't start off on the wrong foot by trying to do a FM initiative and get others into it as well. If he can look at the experience as just me trying to get a well rounded education about starting a on-air hobby Album Rock station we'll be OK. He may not agree with everything I do and maybe I don't always agree with everything he says or does as long as we can be gentlemen about it we may actually work with each other and help all of part 15. If he can understand I'm really not a bad guy. Sometimes I must admit emotions get the best of me that is part of my disability even as a kid but I have to control that as best as I can. We'll have to see what happens if I register with my real name and same user name The Legacy.
Okay Carmine5 as a person and I do mean me, that complied with the part 15 rules to the best of my knowledge, how do you expect me to feel that I was blatantly accused of being a law breaking pirate on that site?
Regardless of what REALLY happened, as a member over there, I find a topic posted directly accusing ME of operating a pirate radio station, a Facebook page created by ME is being published at HB and accused of operating as a PIRATE radio station.
Names are called against Bruce Edwards and accusations made that I am thee Bruce Edwards (I am NOT Bruce Edwards). I do not appreciate being called quote " A PIECE OF WORK" By RF Burns, nor the remarks made against me by Bill. With all the posting I have done over there and the fact Bill knew where I lived by my IP address if nothing else, he knew it was my station long before I posted. I am NOT stupid.
Also, why was this stunt taking place in the first place? I had no clue at the time why my network was being accused of anything illegal.
The transmitters that carried my stream were NOT owned nor operated by me, I was simply providing the audio stream over the Internet on a private IP number.
That post over there titled "HUNTING DOWN A PIRATE" was a direct attack against my studio, the images posted were MY PHOTOS from MY Facebook page. Besides theft of my photos by HB, I was the one who was being accused of being a law breaking pirate.
NO ONE and I mean NO ONE called the phone number I convienently provided to ask ME if I knew anything about an over powered transmitter, or what ever the real issue was, so it could be resolved.
That's the whole point of my anger, I publicly provided a valid phone number, anyone could have called it and spoke to me personally, instead of this stupid FM fox hunt and name calling that took place. Proof is there at HB, there is a photo showing a post we made on Facebook with the studio telephone number clearly displayed in one of the photos, so it can't be said there was no way to contact me directly to voice concerns.
If you think for ONE second that I am NOT pissed off about how business was conducted over there against me, you're sadly mistaken Carmine5.
Bill got mad because I stood up for myself and my station and said I attacked RF Burns? RF Burns attacked ME first, I resent being called a PIECE OF WORK and I resent the other degrading words this person used to describe ME.
I have a coward sitting outside my studio taking pictures of a scanner antenna calling it a dominator? I have a mess of antenna clutter on my chiminey? Those are my inventions called home made UHF television antennas. Nothing up there is related to FM PIRATE RADIO BROADCASTING...NOTHING!!!
It is Bill's choice who he bans on his site, BUT...and I do mean BUT DO NOT USE THAT SITE TO MAKE AN ASS OUT OF ME or ACCUSE ME OF BEING A LAW BREAKING CRIMINAL!!!!
I never hid over there as a PIRATE hidding as a part 15 compliant operator, The only broadcast transmitters I ever owned or possesssed was a Ramsey FM100 US model using ONLY the supplied telescopic antenna and a Chris Cuff C-Quam AM stereo kit built by Chris Cuff with compliance of FCC rules.
That equipment is in no way capable of covering a mile never mind THREE EXITS on route 395 in Connecticut.
I do not owe anyone an apoligy, it is ME who is owed one because I did not reside over there operating as a law breaking pirate and the truth is, those who were supposed to know better, DID NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS. More could have been learned if those people had contacted me by the phone number I provided and I would have granted an on site tour of my studios on the spot! That request was never made and the so called station who hired Tom Terrell and RF Burns did not make any attempt to reveal who they were and why they were concerned about my station in the first place.
Please Carmine5 tell me did I seserve that kind of treatment, specially if I had NOTHING to do with any of the transmitters that carried my stream on the FM band?
Bruce.
Carmine5, i am sure many would be happy to go over there and debate the membership but the webmaster over there has a tendancy to ban members who don't agree with him and completely drink the koolade and he has an enormous shay stadium sized ego that needs constant stroking.
if he would check his ego and his i'm always right and everyone else is wrong attitude and collaborate with and share info with this site and visa versa the two sites might actually get somewhere further than where they have gotten.
this piss and mark your territory crap is getting old as is this do as i say not as i do crap.
just something for you to take back to HB.net
you are more than welcome here Carmine5 to debate anything you like, we are not going to ban you for it like others do.
Bill is even welcome here to debate stuff.
just some things to think about.
The problems that I have (and I can only speak for myself) with the policies of HobbyBroadcaster are manyfold. The attitude that knowledge is owned by them (exemplified best by the watermarking of even copyrighted material), along with the hiding of material behind membership walls and the seeming ban against sharing. Hey, there was even controversy over someone here posting a link from 'over there' that the webmaster himself shared publicly (and it wasn't his material!). The snide personal comments against members here (including, the continuing remarks that this site condones pirates). And often the quite arrogant attitude. How do you expect people to react?
I personally will never join Hobbycaster the way things stand today. There's no point, even if I accept the above issues. I speak my mind. And people that go up against Bill and several others there don't last long on that site. Look with an unbiased viewpoint at many who post there (at least publicly) and what they post. And if you doubt it, and want to find a new home, try posting a critique of something that he proclaims is true.
I note that Carmine5 is now speaking for Bill. That's because he won't speak for himself, except under the protection of the site that he controls. He doesn't post here, even though he would be welcome, as any other, to join (that would be very interesting, given what he's said about many here in the past). I've attempted to engage and debate him on other Forums and he refuses. I remember him promoting the AM transmitter challenge at another place. I then posted the critique of that challenge that I first posted here. He didn't stick around, but several others from HB magically appeared and proceeded to personally attack me and other members here at Part15.us (even though the latter site was never mentioned by me) - the moderator finally had to step in and order them to cease and desist.
And Mighty1650, I don't particularly care what goes on behind the iron curtain at HB, other than the hiding of the knowledge. And even then, I recognize that that site can do whatever it wants - it just makes a mockery of the claim that they're there to help others with Part 15 broadcasting.
ArtisanRadio regarding post #43.
VERY WELL SAID MY FRIEND!!!! EVERY WORD OF IT!!
And kc8gpd your post in #42 is 100% right on as well.
Thick is thick and thick can't tick..get the pun?
Bruce.
Carmine5 did a fine job coming here and recruiting membership for HB.
Then I did a swell job recruiting them to come not only here but also the ALPB.
For me, there's plenty of common ground right here, and as Artisan and everybody has said, everyone is welcome here, we don't bounce anyone.
If HB went away I would miss it. It stirs things up.
I sometimes think about buying it off Bill's hands, but then I'd have to close it because this website is plenty good and I wouldn't want to compete.
