There was a 10 watt class but that has been removed. I wasn't aware of a 1 watt class.
I remember the 10 watt class. Now the LPFMs are classified as L1.
I guess our bunch of radio guys
here were wrong about the 1 watt class.
It was a long time ago, but I do remember
the conversation. We must have gotten
the wrong information.

There is a 9 watt LPFM in East Berstadt,Ky and two 2 watt LPFM's down here in Hazard,Ky.
And from what i understand there will be 2 more LPFM stations sign on in the Hazard area.
Below the line is a quote from the FCC Rules showing why some LPFM stations operate with effective radiated powers of less than 100 watts.
The output power of the transmitter must be accurately set to the power in watts needed to produce that licensed ERP, accounting for the power lost in the transmission line to the antenna, and the power gain (or loss) of the transmit antenna in the direction of maximum radiation.
The "60 dBu contour" is a field intensity of 1,000 µV/m.

FCC § 73.811
LPFM power and antenna height requirements.
(a) LP100 stations:
(1) Maximum facilities. LP100 stations will be authorized to operate with maximum facilities of 100 watts effective radiated power (ERP) at 30 meters antenna height above average terrain (HAAT). An LP100 station with a HAAT that exceeds 30 meters will not be permitted to operate with an ERP greater than that which would result in a 60 dBu contour of 5.6 kilometers. In no event will an ERP less than one watt be authorized. No facility will be authorized in excess of one watt ERP at 450 meters HAAT.
(2) Minimum facilities. LP100 stations may not operate with facilities less than 50 watts ERP at 30 meters HAAT or the equivalent necessary to produce a 60 dBu contour that extends at least 4.7 kilometers.
What is so great about Part 15 US
is that - you ask a question, and
you get great answers!

I received official notification Monday, our LPFM call sign will be WCFI.
We will partner with the local school district splitting the cost of the transmitter site. The school will purchase studio equipment for their in-school and remote operation.
I'll setup a secondary portable studio equipment package for backup and City functions.
The timeline shoots for being on air around mid August.
