"C Quam AM Stereo will be mandatory in Radio's starting in 2016?"

Where the F did that come from?

I posted the link to it.  I had to get it from the source that told me about it.  But I posted a thread about it. Now for another eye opener.  There is a C-Quam board that could be put inside the Talking House AM Transmitter and many others if you know what your doing.  C Quam AM Stereo can be a reality for part 15.  Now there are two C-Quam transmitters.  The one didn't go far however there is another.  This is where we could shine.  Don't give up I'm trying to see what we could do with that.  If this TX goes a good distance and still is 100 mW folks you have a new and better plan.  We'll check and see where this goes.

LMFAO. I'll be sure to tell our engineers that one. The only thing happening to AM in 2016 are FM Translators, as well as some relaxation of some signal rules.

And to answer MrBruce further, full power stations pay yearly fees dependant on station class and persons served. An LPFM costs $80 yearly IIRC.

Also the Talking House is far too dirty to pass C-QuAM properly, if at all. It would take a major overhaul.

To transmit c-quam successfully is a whole new ball game compared to mono.

One of the many problems is incidental phase noise of the q channel, and when people quote cd quality, short part 15 antennas add yet another layer to the problem.
Then you need to look at audio processing/ peak control, a different beast to fm !

Paul.

You would have to take out the whole audio section out and change a few things. As long as you don't change the RF output your still good to go. Maybe add a few things to clean it up a little your all good to go. The Power supply is the first thing to change. First off it needs to be regulated. That would be a good start.

Back in the days when quite a few high-power, licensed AM broadcast stations transmitted in stereo and AM stereo receivers were most available and fairly inexpensive, still AM stereo eventually withered and pretty much died.

Should this be a reality check about the use and expectation of analog AM stereo as providing a useful benefit to the operators/listeners of (legal) Part 15 AM stations?

The modulation section of the Talking House units are lousy as well. You'd almost have to completely redesign the unit. The FMing problem that plagues these transmitters is the biggest challenge for C-QuAM to pass through it.

Station8 seems to have the technical know how to do this, but it will not be an easy project. I'd imagine the cost to get these units clean enough to pass will not be cheap. That being said, I don't know if the iAM units have the same FM problem the TH units did.

As far as I know the power supply the TH units use is pretty solid. I don't recall having much issue if any with them. That being said, I wouldn't be suprised if they had a ripple problem.

In Post # 81 above "An Observation" the opinion is stated in the form of a rhetorical question that AM stereo should not be resurrected.

Why do you feel that way?

Mr Blare asks:  ... Why do you feel that way?

Because of the points I stated in the first paragraph of Post #81 here, which you have not even attempted to disprove.

Why would I disprove something you said. You need to prove it.

I'd put the blame on the FCC in regards to the failure of AM Stereo. A case of too little, too late. Had they stuck with a single system in the 80s, AM Stereo might of had a chance. It HAS seen quite a bit of use in Japan, but who knows what the reason is.

To support your point of view, and justifiably dismiss mine?

Your account of what happened to AM stereo leaves out the most important points about why it failed. That might disclose an unexplained agenda on your part in an effort to discourage the present interest in a return of AM stereo.

It is entirely up to you to clarify what you are saying.

Mr Blare wrote in Reply #88 above:  Your account of what happened to AM stereo leaves out the most important points about why it failed.

Note that I posted nothing in this thread about the reason(s) that analog AM stereo "failed."

Still, Mr Blare acknowledges that analog AM stereo was/is a failure.

Now would he be willing to post:

1) his analysis about what produced that failure?

2) his justification for Part 15 AM operators to pursue analog AM stereo transmission?
