Yes, RFB, and speaking to your point, they obviously know

A. It's coming down;

B. What day it's coming down;

C. How big the chunks will be;

D. Oh, but who knows where......??????????

You are right. They probably don't want to mention that Oshkosh, Wisconsin will get compacted.

I love ANYTHING about space, almost
as much as I love radio.

From what I remember, NASA deliberately
put this spacecraft into a decaying orbit.
I consider myself to be fairly intelligent,
but I can't wrap my brain around it.

Why would they do that? Were they afraid
that satellite could have a collision with
something else in orbit?

"May The SOURCE Be With You!" - Quark

From the 1978 TV series "Quark," which
only lasted about 5 episodes. Quark was
the captain of an intergalactic "garbage truck"
kind of space ship, that flew around the universe
picking up "space trash bags." I think Richard
Benjamin stared as "Quark."

I always liked all of the TV shows that would go off
the air very quickly. If I watched a TV show - it was
doomed.

Best Wishes,

P.S. In 1964, my fourth grade teacher said we
would have a man on Mars in 1985! I remember
the whole classroom of kids being so excited when
they heard that. Oh well.

"Oh, but who knows where......??????????"

They certainly do. When you have the basic data of speed, trajectory and point of re-entry...it's elementary mathematics to calculate where this thing will end up....lets not forget about how things tend to burn up during re-entry.

They make it all sound like such a big deal. Everyone duck! Cover your head..we have no idea about anything!! LOOK UP!!

The best way to dumb down a society is for the so called "smart" ones to play dumb and pass that off as normal.

Yup!

I think you're right. I mean, assuming
that they know, if they said where it was
coming down - it would just scare a bunch
of people.

Best Wishes,

I witnessed one of the Soviet space objects re-enter back in the '70s. It was early evening just before sundown and I was sitting on my porch. To my north there appeared a light. I didn't see the trajectory but saw the sky get white and I felt the heat on my face, sort of like standing in front of a fireplace. It was over in a few seconds. The next day it was reported that this was a Soviet craft and that some pieces of it were found a few miles north of my location.

The earth's oceans cover 72% of its surface. Most stuff that falls out of the sky just goes "Bloop!"

Wow, Neil, I'm glad you and your home escaped the hit. What an experience. The odds are that you will never again be in the path of space debris.

Tonight on my show, Blare OnAir, my comments were interrupted by a tremendous crash which, upon examination, appeared to be a grand piano that had fallen from somewhere. Do they have orchestras in space?

I really would like to try CC here in Friday Harbor, but my good friend who works the lines for OPALCO says they ground out the neutral ever few poles, and all the buildings in town. He says the signal wouldn't get very far before it just goes to ground.

"OPALCO says they ground out the neutral ever few poles, and all the buildings in town. He says the signal wouldn't get very far before it just goes to ground."

No disrespect to anyone or your friend, but I have a working example that seems to prove otherwise.

As I noted on the LPH show, some of that signal will travel down the ground wire on the poles. However that does not kill the signal as most would think.

In fact, that ground wire going down the utility poles actually helps a CC system feeding the neutral line of the power grid system.

Instead of the signal trying to reach the return path back to the coupler via thin air, it travels through the ground and to the isolated ground you provide, which it is the isolated ground that connects to the coupler neutral connection, not the ground wires going down the utility poles.

Because the coupler can tune a very wide range of inductive loading, it all works out quite nicely so that such an arrangement of the utility neutral line, the ground wire going down the poles, and the coupler relying on the isolated ground you provide for the return path, it functions similar to a DC potential J-Pole antenna, which anyone without experience in working with a J-Pole or any other type of DC (continuity) antenna, would also say "well your signal will just go to ground because the whole antenna is a ground".

The natural ground conductivity and resistances plays a role in that return path. To begin to understand CC systems is to first dump the entire book on radiated signal from a resonating rod (antenna and counterpoise).

We can also look at the history of CC systems...where both the telephone companies AND power companies used CC for their own communications. They also had to work with ground wires ran down utility poles, but it worked for them nonetheless.

Today, BPL (Broadband over Power Lines) is also working with those same ground wires running down the poles...so why isn't their signals getting shunted at the nearest pole with a ground wire?

Although the best frequencies for CC systems lies below 300Khz, the MW band is still a useful set of frequencies that will indeed travel down those lines because of the coupling technique and matching methods provided by a coupler system designed for that purpose.

In a nutshell...it seems to work. ๐Ÿ™‚
