I have a question for you guys... In my region of the country there are several open bands on the AM dial. I know most Part 15'ers operate from 1600 and up. I'd like to choose one that has been vacated by a former AM operator in the 1300's. I have found a few more that are clear during the day and night; no bleeding interference from other licensed operators. Are there any rules, laws, edicts that prohibit me from choosing an open spot on the dial other than the 1600's? Just wondering.

Top to Bottom, anywhere you'd like.

The reason most choose the upper frequencies is the antenna requires a bit less loading coil which translates to better efficiency.

Of course if you're operating Carrier Current most agree the lower end of the band works better.

I picked 1500 as the nearest station is over 60 miles away and stations on the adjacent frequencies are a ways out there too.

You can pick any frequency between 530 and 1700

part 15 stations tend to get out better on the upper part of the band due to our short antennas.

You should have no problem on 1300.
