The press box has a bench about 20 inches deep, maybe.  Makes for a tight fit.

The equipment is moved between the studio at my work office and a "road case" for live remotes.

At home I'm relocating all of my "stuff" to a 2nd floor room in my garage.  It's in a state of disarray right now and I've been moving things around, trying to come up with a workable setup.  As such the PC's get turned off and on as I'm moving them around.

Today I had to shut down everything again for a little bit while recabling the spagetti mess behind the desk.  All should be on line for the meeting tonight.

The next regular ALPB TeamSpeak meeting will be Saturday November 21st at 8:00 pm Eastern time.

Usually I forget to post the notice this early but here I am setting at my desk reading posts and listening to the humor of Carl Blare on The Low Power Hour.

I had just finished working on an old RCA AA5 table radio. Picked it up at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It needed new power supply caps and a couple tubes which fortunately I found in my pile of junk. Carl sounds great coming out of that vintage box.

The business meetings have been short as we're sort of coasting but the meeting after the meeting is always very interesting. If you'd like to join us simply read over The ALPB Charter document. If it sounds good to you then download and install the FREE TeamSpeak Client. Let me know and I'll send you the TeamSpeak server address and password. Then just logon Saturday evening and join the conversation. You'll find links to both at The ALPB website.

Carl generally promises dancing ladies and fine wine and cheese. Sounds like fun...

Listening to Carl's Low Power Hour, he asked about the term "HAM" radio; where did that come from?

Here's a blurb from the Vigyan Prasar Science Portal that explains it:

The word "HAM" as applied to 1908 was the station CALL of the first amateur wireless station operated by some amateurs of the Harvard Radio Club. They were ALBERT S. HYMAN, BOB ALMY and POOGIE MURRAY.

At first they called their station "HYMAN- ALMY-MURRAY". Tapping out such a long name in code soon became tiresome and called for a revision. They changed it to "HY-AL-MY", using the first two letters of each of their names.

Early in 1901 some confusion resulted between a signal from amateur wireless station "HY-AL-MU" and a Mexican ship named "HYALMO". They then decided to use only the first letter of each name and the station CALL became "HAM".

Read more about this at "What Is Ham Radio".

Well after listening to my 1947 RCA "Log Cabin" radio for a while I noticed weaker signals were being modulated by what sounds like 60 Hz.

A bad filter cap you say?  Nah, I just replaced those.  I think I have a cathode to filament short putting AC on the cathode.  After all, the one tube got pretty noisey and I simply thumped it a few times to bring it back to life.

So, a trip to Ebay scored me a "New Old Stock - New In Box" set of tubes for the AA5; 12SA7, 12SK7, 12SQ7, 50L6 and 35Z5.  A little pricey compared to the "used but good" tubes but what the heck.

Hope this sweetens the sound even more...

The next regular ALPB TeamSpeak meeting is this Saturday, December 5th, 8:00 pm Eastern time.

Pretty good turn-out for our last meeting and I hope we have the same.  As fate would have it though I may be late to the meeting as I will be helping with a video production at a local church.  If so, the meeting will go on as usual as provided by our Charter Document.

We have a prospective new member with a life time of involvement in commercial radio, starting at a local AM as a teenager.  Steven O. Sellers has offered to provide voice over services at no charge to license free, low power broadcasters.  ALPB members will be receiving his forwarded email with details.  If Steven decides to join our TeamSpeak meetings it should bring some good conversation to the group.

Hope to hear you all at the meeting and if I'm late, carry on as usual.

Thanks for your support!

The 1947 RCA table radio I'm refurbing is sounding great now.

In addition to the tube change-out I found a shorted cap on the AVC line and a leaky cap at the control grid of the audio output stage.

Correcting these items really brought the set to life.  It could use a little more AVC action as really strong stations are way louder.

Now, just a little work on the wood cabinet where a joint separated and should be good to go.

Someday, I keep promising, I'm going to refurb The ALPB website.

But, for today, I added a holiday greeting banner to the home page.

Someday...

I'm more concerned with cleaning and organizing the site.  It started out simple and gradually morphed into what it is.  It's kind of cluttered.  Perhaps I've put too many items out there.

I've been looking at other sites and have some ideas.  Just need the time to put it together.

Thanks for the offer though.  I may consult with you on eye candy.

I use "Listen2MyRadio" free streaming host for our City's AM-TIS and LPFM stations.

The "Listen2MyRadio" host provides sub domain names to choose from.  For some reason they decided to change the sub domain names allowed.

So in the case of our LPFM the URL was http://wcfi.listen2myradio.com.  They dropped the "listen2myradio" subdomain.  Likewise the AM-TIS was http://wqgd298.listen2myradio.com.

The sub domain name choices are now "listen2myshow", "radiostream123", "radiostream321" and "radio12345".

Using any of those four works.  Fortunately the old URL is redirected to one of the new ones but I don't know for how long.  If you use the old URL you will notice the URL automatically changes to the new URL.

This was pointed out to me by The Dood.  Thanks Dood!

Four phneumatic wheels with clamp on spindles for medium duty red sleigh.  Powered by eight tiny reindeer, only use one day per year.

Wear and load rating of tires not critical.  All weather tread perferred.

Normally not needed but unusual weather in Northeast Ohio has affected the performance of the vehicle operation.

Please Tweet SC with offers.  Ho, Ho, Ho - TNX

Pretty cool that listen2myradio is making improvements for its Free users.  With many paid hosts going down or in jeopardy it is nice to see a Free alternative.

The next regular ALPB TeamSpeak meeting is Saturday January 2nd at 8:00 pm Eastern Time (0100 UTC Sunday).

Probably not the best time as many of you will still be reveling in the New Years activities.  That being said the meeting will go on for those who wish to join in.

I have been invited by Atrain to attend a Shortwave Radio Listeners group as a guest speaker.  This group assembles every year and hosts many speakers to discuss the world of radio.  I am pleased to be able to address the group and make them aware of our License Free, Low Power Broadcaster group.  Perhaps some may be interested enough to join us.

What will I convey to this group?  The ALPB is not a lobby group fighting for regulatory changes.  We are a group working to improve the quality of our stations.  At least that was the original concept brought to life by Joe Martinez (aka Lefty Gomez.)  As Chairman I will continue to steer the group in that direction and leave the frustration and bickering over legal restrictions to other groups.

Let's save that thought for the meeting...
