I was wondering for those who use streamlicensing.com is it like a playlist or is it like a livestream but with audio such as a shoutcast?
Streamlicensing dot com is only the legal aspect of streaming, it only covers royalties for the music you play. If you become a member and pay for the licensing through Streamlicensing dot com you will be given a list of shoutcast servers they are partners with or you may run a server from your own computer at home.
They will NOT let you use free streaming servers such as Listen2myradio dot com.
It is up to you if you want to stream your station playlist or if you rent a shoutcast server with storage you can upload mp3's to the server and make a playlist that way.
Stream Licensing.com is of no use to you if your station is live and plays records, tapes, etc. They require the data stream from the computer that provides title and artist of each selection played. For stations that are automated and run from a computer that works fine.
There ARE providers who can license you if you have live broadcasting and analog music. But it's much more expensive. The stations I work for have this -- I believe they license through securenet for server and streaming rights, paying the PRO'S seperately. My show every morning is live and plenty of records are used. So, no data stream.
My Part 15 could use Stream Licensing (although I don't stream and don't intend to in the near future) except that syndicated shows that I run, as well as the Oompah Hour, would require me entering all the song titles and artists manually. Which is funny, 'cause the Oompah Hour is probably at least 50% traditional songs that are public domain, performed by little bands who had a few records pressed 30 to 60 years ago, and certainly are in no way affiliated with any licensing organization. LOL.

NextKast use to allow you to type in songs as they play live, but for some reason Winston stopped that in the later updates. However you could use B.U.T.T to encode and still do Live Shows and play records and tapes. B.U.T.T allows you to manually enter data into it for the songs played so you could use a mixer as well. SAMcast also allows for this but that one you have to pay for. They have a Winamp plugin and a standalone encoder. This would allow you to run StreamLicensing. I use DjcMedia and their AdsWizz program to run ads and use trigger files in NextKast which is just promo's and PSA's to trigger real ads like ones from Walmart on the net. This way I can run part 15 and Internet at the same time.
