I have been trying for some time to find contact information about Dr. David Paul Kimber, who received his PhD degree in EE from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2006. I have been studying his thesis, which is about some aspects of class E amplifiers. In particular, I am interested in the part of his thesis that deals with class E amplifiers that are mistuned so that they do not truly work in the class E mode. His Equation 3.110 can be used to calculate the efficiency of a mistuned class E amplifier. What I believe is that Dr. Kimber's Equation 3.110 works only if the output stage allows large undershoot voltage, but a MOSFET clips off drain undershoot that is greater than one diode drop, and so 3.110 would not be applicable to Class E amplifiers using MOSFET output stages, and would overestimate the efficiency.

I found an e-mail address for Dr. Kimber for when he was apparently employed by University College as a postdoc. His post-doctorate days must have been over for years, and this particular e-mail address is no longer operational.

The only thing left for me to try is see if Dr. Kimber occasionally googles his own name in order to check up on his online reputation. part15.us surely has a pretty high page rank. So Dr. Dave Kimber, in case I have the good luck of you reading this post, please contact me at [email protected]. There are a few things I would like very much to ask you about your excellent thesis, which inspired me tremendously.

Dr. Kimber was at Imperial College, London, not University College.
