Anyone out there........anyone at all..........anyone????
Hello all,
As I review the posts on this board, I notice that there are lots of views and few posts. It is great that so many read the posts, but why don't you jump in and post? Let's not let this board waste away....throw your $.02 in.
I couldn't think of any technical stuff to post right now so I thought I would tell you a story for entertainment.
The year was 1961. I had a KnightKit AM part15 transmitter, and yes, "this one time, at band camp" I put it to good use.
There were seven cabins at camp and each was supposed to come up with entertainment at a general gathering in the camp meeting building. I suffered though the presentations of the other cabins, but my cabin, Cabin 7 (note the proper noun capitalization), gave a show stopper. We did a mind reading act. One of us, in a turbin and blindfolded, would identify any object held behind him.
The way it worked was this. (After 40 plus years, the secret is out). Inside the turbin was a Motrola AM transistor radio and an earphone concealed by the turbin. I was positioned outside where I could view the proceedings through a screen door. When an object was presented, I would whisper to our "swami": fishing pole, tennis racket, trumpet, etc. All good magic is deception, so we had people stationed near the front who gave hand signals, and the interrogator would compose questions that sounded like code. These distractions prevented anyone from figureing out how we did it.
So, I hope this was fun for you to read. Next time I will try to post something technical: right now I am just not in the mood.

I really need to replace my $14 keyboard. I listened to my mother and took typing instead of Latin II. She thought it would do me more good than Latin. Boy was she right! QED.
Neil
OK, I'm game ill post, but what is the point of this thread.. things you have done with your radio stuff? A thread about latin or typing class and cheap keyboards.. or just general y what ever your thining about...
Any way here we go:
I just bought a wood burning stove and am planning out the install, i got the stove because i will have years worth of free heat from it and the investment will pay for its self in one tank full of petrolum bases fuel for heat.. that alone makes it a great idea not to mention its a naturally renewable fuel.. Corn stoves are also very nice but the cost waqs to high to put one of these in at this point and time , and thay are not as flexable for the typwes of fuel thaqt can be burned in them.. I have been saving all my newspapers for the last year and have enough paper saved up to make "paper logs" these burn just like wood and is free.. and is way better than goin in a landfill.
The other reason i did a wood stove VS a corn burner is if a big storm hits us or if the grid breaks down like has happened in the past, and we loose power for a few days.. I have heat, with or with out power. This will keep my water pipes from freezing and gives me a sence of safty in hard times. I believe that prepairedness is the best bet for safty in any situation.. Be prepaired, and your make it through it.. I aso have fresh water and tons of canned and non perrishable food on hand (enough for weeks) for any situation that may come.
So thats what I'm up to, The plus side of this is that once my stove pays for its self, I get more $$$ for my radio hobby. ๐

Hi Ebacherville and everyone else,
Thanks for the reply post. The point of my post is that for two days, there was nothing new on this board. Maybe you think my post was junk, and maybe it was. If you don't care about what I did with my radio, that's ok. Frankly, I was very interested in reading your description of what you did with your radio in your "newbie help" post. Really! Not being sarcastic.
I am just trying to get some activity going here. What is new with your station? How is programming going? Did you get your own meter?
My reference my keyboard, etc. was due to something I have noticed here. As I type I see that what is on the screen is not always what I type. Either it is my KB or the site. Just curious if anyone else has seen this.

I see, i was confused i guess..
So far i found some decent content and have kind of gotten that stuff ready to go..
My issue now is my HUM problem.. check my other post.. My audio line is picking up tons of hum.. its really bad..
I borrowed my dads meter and made my antenna mast tunable to get a higehr tx reading, its not perfect yet but I clear about 1/3 mile and 1/4 mile with good quality signal durring the day.. this covers my little town and the outskirts.. So for now, im struggling with this hum im getting.. and trying to work on my wood stove as much as I can.. tonight we went and got all the materials for the noncombustable base for it, it will be all tiled and grouted... oak trim ect. My dad has one simular but used marble on it and it looks real nice.. we opted for color matched tile as it fits our decore better.
Any way I'm going to go pull my hair out some more and try solving the HUM issue..

I had the same problem. Coming from a broadcast radio background. The first thing I thought it could be was a ground loop. Knowing that my shields were only grounded on one end. I grounded it on both ends. Experience has shown that sometimes, though extremely rarely, in the real world, you have to ground both sides of the shield. It didn't help a bit and made it worse.
Cussed it. Put filters on the power supply, grounded it to anything that even looked like it was capable of being a ground. Put transformers on the audio...
Found out that it was the radio I was using to monitor the signal.
I hope you get it fingered out...
Yeah i tried about 12 diffrent radios, both cars a little portable one the home stereo ect.. all have the same hum.. and other channels are hummless.. dont think it my radios ๐
Im in multimedia and do alot of live even setup ect, and we have to deal with ground loops ect but usually it just a matter of grounding or ungrounding certain pieces of equipment.. That usually clears up any problems even invenues with terrable electrical systems..
ANy way I keep tring anything i can think of and have not found the magic trick yet.. Keep trying..

Well My thought tonight is this hobby would be a heck of a lot more rewarding with 1 full watt instrat of a tent watt... COme ON FCC GIVE US DOGS A BONE.
I would be willing to pay a small gaurenteed fee of say $100 for a 1 watt licence... and you could go up from ther 10 watt licence woul dbe 1000, and a 100 watt licence for 10,000
This would be a great way to diversift the auirwaves and the FCC would pull in alot more money by issueing thes smalll licences for communities and other community driven events
People would and should naturaly fall in to plaxce where there is a need.. if im on a 10 watt station i woul not try walking on a 5kw statiio thAST STUPID LOGIC , I WOULD FIND A CLEAR CHANNEL AND BROADCAST ON IT IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER Like all of us here we whant to stay in the limits but whould like the limits to be a buit better for us so we can broadcast more than a few blocks..
END RANT
