This seems crazy.
CBS Radio News is shutting down, ending a national news service for nearly 700 radio stations https://www.audacy.com/wccoradio/news/local/cbs-radio-news-will-close
"In a shocking memo on Friday, CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss and CBS News president/executive editor Tom Cibrowski announced a number of layoffs and that includes the entire CBS Radio News division. That service will end on May 22, 2026 after nearly 100 years. The memo, which was posted to social media mid-morning Friday, announced that the network informed the CBS News Radio team and approximately 700 affiliated stations that they are ending the service, blaming a shift in radio station programming strategies and challenging economic times.
"Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated," ..."
So no more news on so many stations. Is there another source? Wait till we hear the the USPS is ceasing service along with Canada Post. That I think is coming in the forseeable future. They loose millions$ a year.
I'm sure that this is all due to Trump and his administration continuously threatening the media, and in particular, CBS and 60 minutes.
Recently, the FCC head threatened to pull the broadcast licenses of those media outlets that didn't report what the administration wanted them to.
There's always the CBC and the BBC.
Well just to clarify, I think this just their Radio Division, not the CBS news network

Is Canada postal delivery questions in the news there too? I posted about it in the US the other day: https://part15.org/community/everything-else/usps-says-it-may-stop-delivering-mail-in-a-year/
@richpowers Yes, here too, last time they went on strike the government was talking about abolishing it altogether or greatly reducing service like mail only 3 days a week and eliminating all home delivery everywhere in the country and having community mailboxes only.
@artisan-radio I thought the constitution included freedom of the press? And that means to criticize the government not just say what the president wants. It's getting scary. If it isn't scary enough all ready.
They want to censor the media, and yet this is a post from social media by the country's leader, always one to take the high road, when learning that Robert Mueller had passed away:
Good, I’m glad he’s dead.
What more can you say?

Well, essentially "the media" in the US consist of like 6 guys, so there's no question of "the media" is not a true reflection of what's going on.
"..In 1983, 50 companies controlled most American media; by 2011, that number dropped to 20, and it has since narrowed to roughly six. The primary entities dominating the media landscape are generally listed as Comcast, Disney, AT&T (now Warner Bros. Discovery), Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS), News Corp, and Fox. ... Around 95% of Americans believe corporate interests influence news coverage, and nearly three-quarters want more transparency regarding funding. While the "Big Six" dominate, independent media outlets still exist. However, the consolidated ownership remains heavily skewed toward a small cartel of corporations and billionaires...'

Well, it appears that the current administration wants each of those 6 people/companies to echo the same refrain. No critical thinking and/or fact finding allowed. That's the point of this thread, I believe.
And what's really going on is certainly not the line that the politicians are touting.
There other sources other than those 6. Just not as big, likely more accurate if you discount the far right and far left outlets.
These days, all you can do is gather the facts (and even that is sometimes difficult) and come to your own conclusions as to what's really going on.
Well I guess I fall in the 95% of Americans who believe the news media is simply not to be trusted, so it's real difficult to know what's what. I can't take a stance on reporting that I have no faith in.
And by the way, it's CBS that decided in dropping their radio network, it wasn't imposed on them, my guess is they just weren't making money on their radio division, I wouldn't go reading other things into it.
@richpowers Guess they'll have to find another source for their news. As for reliable, I think no matter what the source it's only as accurate as the reporters reporting. Much of it like the Iran or Russia/Ukraine wars you go more on what each country claims.....accurate?
@mark I think we have major problems in the world in general, and I think it's at a boiling point. I don't know what's going on, much less what will happen, but only hope a center grounds are found so everything doesn't get shredded apart.
And all of those decomposers who personally witnessed Walter Cronkite in his tidy whitees are yawning in the grave. "News"; wars and rumors of wars.
