I've said it and will say it again, it will be the end of part 15/bets-1...our hobby.
That is if it goes 100% like TV and the bands are reallocated.
This is not happening or in the future plan to happen as of now.
Digital AM doesn't necessarily mean the public is obligated to throw away their analog radios on the first of the year. If they like what you do and the MW BC band is not reallocated for some other purpose, they may well keep their receivers.
The other half of the equation - as I said a few months back - is that digital receivers have to be affordable ($20 or less) and there has to be a compelling reason to buy one. Otherwise, there are going to be a lot of useless bits in the air.
BTW, did you see how old that article is? Here's a quote from it: "You need a PC with Windows 98 or better." Somehow I don't think that will be a problem.
Michelle Bradley was in a meeting with the FCC she discussed More Power on AM no ground lead restrictions in an effort to curb the need for Pirate Radio.
Talks with the FCC have been made about BETS-1 power in the USA. If legalized the Decade MS 100 BETS-1 here we come.

I predict widespread digital AM in the USA within ten years.
I also predict it will remain on it's current range of frequencies.
We currently own 3 cars that can receive HD/digital AM. Of course, around here there are no such stations to listen to. Yet.
There are billions of AM radios out there. If you think people will seek out C-Quam receivers, or receivers that get the "Japanese" part of the FM band so they can hear your station best (or at all) I think they would certainly turn on a radio they already own to hear your Part 15. If it's worth listening to.
