Is today Thursday or is it still Wednesday(?) That is a question I had when I woke up one morning this week. It turned out to be Tuesday. How could I be so scrambled?
It all began when I read an article that said that in the old days, before electric lights, that people had two days in one by sleeping four hours, being up for daytime work, sleeping another four hours, getting up late at night for quiet nighttime activities. So I decided to do the same thing and immediately got lost in time.
But finding out what day it was wasn't easy. The little time and date shown in the bottom tight of the computer doesn't show the day and I don't have a wall calendar. I found out by doing a Duck Duck Go search for calendars.
For a while, I was doing the two sleep thing. I'd fall asleep fairly early in the evening, then get up around an hour before midnight, staying up for a few hours before going back to bed. Not sure if it's healthy, but I decided to stop myself falling asleep too early, and have now gone back to getting all my sleep in one go.
It's nice being retired - you can nap and sleep whenever you want to! As for not knowing what day it is, unless you're working, or have some kind of schedule that requires you to know what day it is, I guess that information is not too important. I have just enough going on in my life that is tied to a schedule, to need to know what day it is.
I do that all the time, not sure what day it is. But it's not a sign of old age for me, I was never sure what day it was when I was 12 years old too..
