OMG.. Wish I'd see this sooner, I seldom Facebook but W4ABQ - J.E. Powers was my grandfather! I used to use his call letters on his equipment to talk to people all over the world back in the 1960s and 70s everytime we'd visit for a week or two (every year) for thanksgiving. My grandfather always bragged that he was the first ham radio operator in the state of Tennessee.
Anyway, this guy was selling this card for $5 and $1.50 shipping - but it had already been sold before I ever saw it. I would of loved to have that card
Very early QSL Card from one of Tri-Cities earliest Ham operators, J.E. Powers. He operated out of Bristol, the "Voice of Bristol" in the mid-1920's - 1930's. W4ABQ was his call letters. sent to N.A. Whitaker, Bristol TN, WHAHR. Great early QSL card in East Tennessee. Great addition to a Ham Collection. Pick up in Bristol, or mailed for $1.50.
In past searches I hadn't found too many references to W4ABQ other than in old an old callbook and some brief mentions is QST magazine, like in the April 1931 where he mentioned in traffic (clipping below) and the January 1933 issue mentions "W4ABQ is QRMed by illness." Whatever that means.
