@mark That's excellent. Although I really don't need one they seem so cool I'm considering one - though I probably won't anytime too soon. I'm glad everything worked out for you with it.
The article above though really does illustrate just how dramatic a difference the processor can make with efficiency on how long your batter last. You can watch more Netflix movies on a single charge with certain processors than others. I thought it was an interesting article which seemed to echo your points earlier in this thread.
But clear something up for me cause I'm not sure if I understood you correctly, are you saying your mini 8" laptop actually uses more energy than your 11" laptop?
@richpowers Yes it does. Not a drastic amount but more yes. The 10" ones have the celeron 4000 series. Don't know off hand now the actual number but not the N 95. Apparently size isn't the indicator of power consumption.
@mark Well like you said, it the brand of processor itself. This is something I never really realized, take two processors of the same speed capability specs and one will may use considerable more power to accomplish the same thing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but it surprised me.
New update, well it worked for a week and a half, or has it been two weeks, doesn't matter and just tonight At 10 oclock when an OTR was just starting I was just going to sit outside when, what!....it crashed as before! Just as I was walking out the door. Salamandra looses it's path for it's access and the audio goes crazy like a broken record. So, went inside, turned it off and on again and now working again but because of the crash it didn't begin where it left off and nope, can't have this! It could do this when I am not here.
And maybe one of my listeners were listening to the OTR.
That's it! It is going to Best Buy as they take electronics for disposal.
I took out the SSD so no use to anyone. It can be installed in another computer if it fits and has Windows 10 on it. But I really have no use for it.
So using the other 10" laptop and I have an extra one of those. Those are the off brand ones I got on Amazon and work with no issues.
If you could figure out a way to put a heatsink on the SSD, I think that would do it. It doesn't have to be a commercially available one - get some thermal tape, and a small strip of thin metal. I know space is a concern, which is why I suggest a metal strip.
Seems a real waste to junk it when a bit of experimentation might solve the problem.
Then you can run it in parallel with your other laptop to see if it crashes after a while.
Yeah I agree, no point in trashing it, it's still a neat and capable little unit.. it's just not geared for 24/7 operation. It's a convenience unit, and a cool conversation piece.
