..I started this thread as an attempt to get in touch with Carl, as I hadn't heard from him in a while.  We did periodically chat.

It appears that Carl went out of his way to obfuscate his real identity.  I think I want to honor his wishes, and not pursue this any further, no matter what has happened.

Ohhhh I got to vent...

I couldn't disagree more. I find your view on this matter peculiar. It is out of respect that I'm seeking this information, in fact I think it would be downright disrespectful not to do so.

I know you and Mark have known him and conversed with him at least as long as I have... Why would you prefer to keep this topic all hush hush on part15.org? Of all places, this is where it should be discussed.... His wishes? What are you talking about? Because he might have used a stage name online? Because he didn't talk much about his personal life? Who here does? You interpret somehow that  means he wouldn't want us to know about his death here in the forum?

For at least a decade my online identity was only End80, few knew my actual name. I rarely if ever discuss my personal life, but why would I? Why would Carl?
I's not irregular for me to dissapear for months at time occasionally, but Carl never did, with exception to one time years back during a blow-up here that made him mad, but he didn't dissapear, he simply moved over to the MBCF for a while (untill things blew up there and he returned here.

Something substantial has happened in relation to Carl. Probally his death.

Disrespect.. I kind of resent that you are implying I am disrespecting him. It's quite the opposite.

Actually, I was particularly responding to this comment...

..But in any event, I feel that this Forum should respect his wishes for privacy as well.

That was actual the quote I meant to be respondong to above

@richpowers I think that Carl only came back here as it was new ownership/moderator and only when Artisan became an admin and convinced him to. And yes I just use my name but the few others here have nicknames they go by like you did. Artisan(a nickname) knew him better than me as I just knew him as a forum member. But I think that Carl Blare was his real name.
Artisan knew him on a more personal level so he may know better.

@mark I knew him in a more personal level too, in that we've conversed semi-frequently by email for years and for even longer on the forums.

I wouldn't say we were tight, just that we were freinds.

That is if he's dead, otherwise we're still friends

So, it appears his home is not St. Louis Missouri as has been suggested, but actually in Chicago Illinois...

So now we can say with certainty that we dont really know what became of him or where he ever was..

Perhaps browsing some railroad hobby forums might turn up some clues..

Wait. Carl was a railfan?

I'm kind of shocked to see this, if it is any help at all Carl had me put Affton, MO as his location on the part 15 map.

OK..here's in Carl's own words..

City of Non-License

June 16, 2012 by Carl Blare

"....For example, I am in a city that I refuse to name, about 3-blocks outside of St. Louis, Missouri, which many people would like to name because it’s a top market, but I want to minimize any association with it because the station image is more worldly and not at all typical of anything in St. Louis. One identifier I have used is to say we are in “Forest Park” because in fact this exact spot was originally part of Forest Park back in 1904 when the World’s Fair took place (the movie “Meet Me In St. Louis”). In fact now, today, Forest Park has it’s own postal code, so it is like a city in that way, except that I am not in that postal code.

The city I prefer to identify with is named Affton, Missouri, where my only surviving family member lives, and I like the small sized houses with no pretension about status. If you drew a straight line from Affton to Forest Park, KDX would be exactly in the middle....

That would put him in the near-vicinity of Lindenwood Park.

@rugster I bet it's Shrewsbury near the river. He mentioned not being in St Louis city limits, Shrewsbury is the only town that fits the criteria.

Maybe use google street view to travel Shrewsbury and try to find a house with a "wintenna" in the window.... but didn't he also buy a Rangemaster at some point? be easier to locate a 9' whip!

Does anyone recall him talking about relations? wife, brother, sister, kids? I dont recall any.. might have mentioned a sister maybe..

It seems so odd that we know absolutely nothing about what became of him. Should be something in a newspaper or somewhere. As Artisian pointed out we don't even know for sure Carl Blare was his real name (although I tend to think it probally was).

We might never know. Wouldn't that suck?
