I've gotten the itch again to start producing new shows. Teenage Dreams features the music listened to by teenagers in the late 1950s and the early 1960s. So far, I've created 79 of these shows, with music taken from a variety of sources, mostly obscure compilation CD's.
Now I've got #80, and I've changed things a bit. First, instead of getting the music from these other sources, I'm playing it directly from 45s located in the Artisan Radio music vault. There won't be any audio processing, so you'll hear all the pops and crackles that are inherent in this format. I've found that it actually adds to the listening experience. At least, it takes me back to when you pulled the record player out, sat in your room and played the latest 45s.
Second, I'm expanding the time period a bit to include all of the 1960s, although I will still be focusing on the early part of the decade.
Third, since I'm sourcing from records in the vault, there will be more hit type music, and fewer rarities (although there will still be some of the latter, and we will play B sides when they're interesting - we also have a number of British records).
Here is the playlist for the first of the new shows.
- Conway Twitty - Sweet Sorrow
- The Righteous Brothers - My Babe
- Lou Christie - Rhapsody in the Rain
- Jay & the Americans - Come a Little Bit Closer
- The Beach Boys - You're So Good To Me
- Julie Rogers - The Wedding
- Big Jay McNeely - Back Track Shack
- The McCoys - Fever
- Loretta Lynn - Happy Birthday
- David Seville - Almost Good
- Billie & Lillie - Lucky Ladybug
- Billie & Lillie - I Promise You
- The Brothers Four - Greenfields
- The Hollies - Look Through Any Window
- The Swinging Blue Jeans - You're No Good
- Andy Williams - Can't Get Used To Losing You
- Roger Williams - Till
- Bobby Vinton - Clinging Vine
- Smokey Robinson & the Miracles - Baby Baby Don't Cry
- Tom Jones - Green Green Grass of Home
- Jerry Fuller - Shy Away
Each show we'll have a Double Play feature, where we play both the A & B sides of a record; this show it's the duo of Billie & Lillie from 1959, the follow on to their first hit, 1958s La Dee Dah.
We're still a few weeks away from going live over-the-air once again, but you can bet this will be on the schedule for that first week.
@ Artisan I like the playlist!
I now am in the process of the computer doing a playlist download of around 500 CBS radio mystery theatre episodes. I found a playlist(youtube) that has just episodes without news and commercials and then will try to weed out the ones that are very bad audio with a 10 second sample of each.
They run for 40-45 minutes which isn't the ideal 1/2 hour time slot but it doesn't matter as if one is picked in random when back to back at night it will fill the rest of the hour with music till the top of the hour when another is scheduled. They will all go into the mix folder titled OTR shows. I think with this I will have as many of these as playlist tracks! This is it. It has to end somewhere. Takes a while for the computer to do it, maybe won't be done till tomorrow sometime but I can be on here while it is doing this. Just hope no glitches like the internet going off or something screwing the download up. I think there's enough space left on the broadcast computer to accommodate them all with sufficient space left in reserve. If not I'll have to shorten the OTR list a bit.
