Who has used or is using FSN News? How do you like it?

To help me answer your question, Roy, I just aired the current edition of FSN News (Feature Story News), and would say their work is journalisticly professional, international in scope, and not weighed toward any bias. On the weekend they offer 'The Week in Review' in place of updated newscasts.

I second that recommendation.

They update their weekly news frequently, and it all sounds very professional.

Much more professional than the VOA news I'm using right now, but then, it's difficult to argue with the cost (i.e., free).

If you have revenue coming in, or sponsors, FSN News makes a lot of sense.

This discussion about newscast quality has me thinking about the larger history of newscasts used by part 15 radio stations. In every case I can recall, stations interested in having a newscast as part of their schedule have tended to look for generic newscasts, which is to say, newscasts that pass as 'ordinary' to give the listener an impression that this is a 'regular station', almost always presenting a mainly hit music format. But, even though it hasn't been known to happen, it is conceivable that a station could seek what we will call 'slanted' newscasts, by which I mean newscasts biased toward a particular political, religious, or philosophical outlook most probably reflecting the beliefs of the station's owner. And indeed there are newscasts of the more propagandistic kind. Here at KDX, because we run talk format with several newscasts, have encountered a few 'warped' examples that we ended up avoiding. There was (maybe still is) a Christian based newscast that deceptively used the name "Mutual Network News", taken from the historic Mutual Network of past years. They irresponsibly tied present day news events with Biblical prophesy. And another example, RT News, is a Russian TV network from which KDX carried the audio prior to the Ukraine War so that our audience could compare Russia's take on world events to those reported on VOA, the Voice of America. But now that Russia has declared war on Ukraine the RT News is a wall-to-wall report on Russia's 100% success in every battle and claim of Ukraine's pathetic atrocities. RT News today has a grade-school level of false journalism.

Been running FSN here for near 10 years. Always professional, always technically competent and reliable, and about as unbiased as it can be.  Heck of a deal for $15 a month.
