Surprisingly the audio isn't too bad with these. Not good but better than I thought.
Here's a sample..
One of my favorite OTR series!
Arch Obeler wrote many of the plays that the scripts are based on, and the scripts themselves. There is another series, Arch Obeler's Plays, which is similar.
While there may be sci fi and horror elements to the shows, they mostly deal with the people involved, and their reactions to the situations they find themselves in. Highly recommended.
There's a book floating around that collects some of Obeler's plays. I used to own it. Used to is very unfortunate.
Just think if I was where you are we'd be two part 15/BETS stations competing with each other in the same area.
Downloading 174 episodes of Escape. Excellent audio quality.
I have Lights Out in the mix but the audio quality is so so, a little muffled, not great.
Debating whether to keep the 87 episodes or not.
Looking for one more on the lighter side of things like Our Miss Brooks and I should have enough.
I would run CBSRMT but the times vary too much. No set time slot. All others are half hour.
Also not good audio quality on many.
@mark Here are a few suggestions for OTR shows.
There are, of course, Jack Benny and Burns&Allen, but both contain music, and are essentially a series of skits with a guest star every week (although, in the case of Jack Benny, the skits generally run together throughout the show). Lots of episodes of both available, with good sound (particularly Jack Benny).
I'm partial to the Great Gildersleeve for a comedy, which was a spin-off of Fibber McGee & Molly. Again, lots of shows, good quality sound. My Favorite Husband (a precursor to I Love Lucy) would also work, although the sound quality tends to be a bit more variable (the OTRR has not done a certified set of the episodes yet). About 100 shows kicking around.
For lighter mystery/adventures, I'd recommend either The Saint (with Vincent Price) or Sherlock Holmes. Not as many episodes of the Saint as other series, but Vincent Price is great in the role. Sherlock Holmes, particularly with Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce is a classic, and many of the episodes are surprisingly good, even in a half hour format. First Rathbone, and then Bruce, were replaced as the years went on. Sound quality is excellent, particularly for the later episodes.
Dragnet can also be fun, and there are a ton of episodes, all with good sound.
Hope that helps you narrow your search a bit.
