Starting tomorrow (or maybe even tonight), Artisan Radio will start interspersing Christmas music with our regular programming (every other song).
And I know, people are saying, oh no, the same old, same old.
That's not the case. While other stations will endlessly play 50 or so Christmas 'classics', we'll stay 99.9% true to our current format of late 1950s and early to mid 1960s. I've hand picked close to 1000 obscure (and a few not so obscure) Christmas songs from that era, so you'll have to listen more than a few hours to hear them all.
Here's some samples of what you can expect:
- Bobby Vee - A Not So Merry Christmas
- Johnny Preston - I Want A Rock 'n Roll Guitar (For Christmas)
- Ral Donner - Christmas Day
- Paul & Paula - Holiday Hootenanny, and many more.
And you'll even be able to hear:
- Michael Landon - Santa Got Lost in Texas
- Soupy Sales - Santa Claus is Surfin' To Town
- Kay Martin & Her Bodyguards - Hang Your Balls on the Christmas Tree, and more.
Guaranteed to bring the Christmas spirit even to grinches.
i've already got (started thanksgiving day) mine going, about 200-300 tracks from TM Century and CD's
WLSL-LP will start on December 13 through the 26th.
on christmas eve (@ about 6pm mountain) i'll go 24hr christmas through (till about 6pm) christmas day
Same here. I sometimes go through Boxing Day as well.
Around here folks are complaining that they CAN'T finD the "same old". As in the great classic Christmas music they remember as kids or parents. You do realize that all the songs you listed are 40 or more years old, right?
Here at Iron Range Country, we become Iron Range Christmas on Thanksgiving at 6 PM. And I keep on going through January 7th, as we have a lot of folks of Eastern Orthodox faith around here, for whom Christmas day is on January 7th. The eve of the 6th and all day the 7th I program Eastern Orthodox Christmas music and church programs. No stations in the area carry such programming.
My Christmas music rotation is currently at about 2,500 tunes. NO rock and roll Christmas songs and nothing newer than about 1975, with the exception of tracks from the Duck Dynasty christmas album, the Mollie B. Christmas Special (polka) and the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Christmas album (all done in 40's swing style). Every store in town is playing my station in their stores all day.
BTW, we've had four new businesses open in town over the last couple months. Another restaurant, an antique store, a store full of art, etc from locals, and a crafty/gifty type store. And a huge second hand store is getting ready to open. All were quite thriiled to have free ads on the station!

Congrats on your thriving station.
The songs I play at Christmas are certainly old, but they're also certainly not classic. Unless, of course, you consider, The Everly Brothers - Christmas Eve Can Kill You or Bobby 'Boris' Pickett - Monsters Holiday, classic.
I have a lot of fun picking out the most obscure songs (you don't hear Bet E. Martin's Mrs. Santa Claus every day), or some of the 'classics' sung by artists that you don't normally associate those songs with (such as Ricky Nelson singing Jingle Bells - never released).
