I'm in awe of most radio DJ's.
To be able to talk continuously, live, on the air, is truly an amazing skill.
I know how it's supposed to be done. Like carrying on a one to one conversation with your listener(s).
I listen to our own Carl Blare, Tim Edwards (and I'm sure there are lots more) and they make it sound so easy. But, from trying it myself, and having no training or professional experience in front of a microphone, I know that it's really, really hard to do.
So, kudos to all that do it.
It was for me when I first started my radio career years ago. After a week or so It flowed like second nature.
I have admiration for great DJs like Wolfman Jack who make a great show and can talk in a studio to an invisible audience but mostly talk show hosts that can keep talking for 3 hour shows and not have dead air or stumble over their words. Then talk about another subject the next day. How do you keep thinking of what to say!
I am like Artisan in awe of talk show hosts in particular. I have trouble just making a 10 second promo into a voice recorder and I need a few takes before it comes out right.
Radio personalities have been among my valued friends for many years, including disk jockies and staff announcers, plus a good number of station engineers. I got to know them by either working with them at the same stations or often hiring them for talent work for commercials and corporate film presentations through my recording business. Sadly, most of those I knew have died because time goes by and people fade away.
